Italy's numbers today are horrific. No other word for it. There is no sign of a let up at all.

    Not good.

Do you think older people will be prepared to go without seeing their grandchildren for months on end? Of course not

UK closing shops is that what he said?

Any employer in the country can get a grant to cover wages in UK to cover 80% of salary up to €2,500 per month

How can they afford this? Would love something like this here, but will certainly not happen

    The evil Tories.

Bailing out the middle classes yet again.

I'm glad I'm not in the UK.

Boris has gone to the magic money tree

Irish government found a 3 billion magic money tree last week, but lets bash the Brits, eh ?

Italy 5986 new cases, 627 new deaths - worst day yet for them.

I actually have felt like praying lately .... it's nuts

That is horrific for Italy my heart really is breaking. Really thought we would see a reduction in numbers by now. Recoveries seem to have jumped a bit though some good news

They're closing all bars and restaurants at midnight.

Cases or deaths here? As a comparison let's not forget the flu' kills 500-600 p.a. here.

    More like 250-500 p.a.

If we were getting 600 cases a day we would be expecting a minimum of 12 deaths a day. I say minimum, because that's what you'd expect while the health system is still able to cope.

Those figures for Italy mean a COVID-19 death pretty much every 2 minutes.

deaths possible seriously hope im wrong.

We need a lockdown now. People who wont stay indoors need to fined or forced into isolation physically. This is too serious now.

Hard not be angry at people who only care about themselves/
Going to cause so much pain for people who will lose family members,
Suicide will go through way up too most likely

    Huge announcement by the UK

This is not going to do go down well for a large % of the population who voted for Boris in the last election.

One would hope there isn't a mass outbreak in the Mezzogiorno

The Brits deserve to be bashed for the slow response up to now, are you saying they shouldn't?

Why? He is bailing out the middle classes who voted for him?

In fairness we had that money lying around because of the brits and their hard brexit fixation :)

To be fair the same could be really said for the whole of the EU.

There isn't a single country in Europe yet to cover themselves in glory in relation to this. If there wasn't the example of Italy for all to see, the other countries would still be doing very little.

Unbelievable that they will pay 80 percent of all wages for those not working.
How long could they do it for?
I can see massive abuse of this coming.

We really need to see some let up soon otherwise it would appear even a full lockdown is having little or no impact.

Again the only saving grace is that we are still only 11 days out from the lockdown, we have to have believe that there will be an improvement in the next few days.

A pure deflection tactic away from their (the Brits) slow response to shut everything.
