As an aside, I genuinely think I've had this in December / January, or at least a weaker version of it.

I looked back at messages I sent when I was very sick and then I vividly remember being worried about how I used to vape because my chest was sore for a good while. Loads of people around me had it and I was even wearing a mask because I was coughing so much before ending up bedridden for around four days. It was the worst I've ever been sick but I didn't think it was the flu. My brother here had it as well but not as bad.

Since I'm only a few hundred miles from China and we share a land border, it seems entirely plausible. In my near decade here, I've never seen so many people sick with what what was much worse than a cold but not full on flu.

I thought same but looks like a different strain known as AH. Also the deaths from it were only on high side of normal. https://www.hpsc.ie/news/newsarchive/2019newsarchive/title-18727-en.html

Have people taken to breathing on each others shoes as a greeting?

Other than the usual issue of walking dog crap into your house, what's so risky about shoes and spreading the virus?

Well if that's the case, then I'm happy I've had it because I'd hate to have something else make me sick now.

Well some of it is psychological and when coming in I strip off as anything I have read said clothes can hold onto germs. But I had thought of someone getting sick in a supermarket and although mopped up, I could walk through it. So leaving them outside is a preventative measure. I a, doing everything I can think of.maybe overboard but it is not hurting anyone.

United States likely to pass Iran, Spain and Germany today in new cases to become the world's 3rd most affected country.

Yes. US is on a very scary path/curve!

New York being the epicentre with 5,712 cases/38 deaths (as of yesterday).

Anyone know the wait time to get a test and then results, I was put on test list Wednesday evening by doctor due to contact with a positive person. No symptoms and it’s been over a week since contact.

I’ve a family member with cough, chills and waiting since Monday. No word. Think there is a big backlog. The person they live with has no symptoms so hopefully just a cold/flu

If they hear nothing by Monday and are feeling better they are just going to ring and get taken off the list. Might save a test/time but they’ll never know if they had it.

Hopefully they’re ok. The concern would be if they didn’t have it and now think they are immune. Have heard loads that say they had it in December and are not worried. No convincing them that it was a different flu and they are not safe from this.

Lads I just think this deserves sharing. A team in Galway are currently trying to design an easily built and put together ventilator which can be rapidly built and deployed. It's to be an open source device so anyone or any nation will be free to use the designs to make their own. Non profit

Saw it in the journal this morning

    https://www.thejournal.ie/emergency-ventilators-ireland-5051956-Mar2020/

They currently have about 36k of the 50k needed, just said I'd share it

I’m adopting the same behaviour I had when About 5 showers a day. And walking around the house (self isolating by myself) in a kimono. Seriously all I need is a pina colada and a cigar and I would be the spit of Del Boy.

I really hope we retain some of these practices when this is all over.
I always take my outside shoes off the minute I get home... when I see people spitting on the street and think of all the muck and dog crap I'm dragging inside it seems the best thing to do.

I also host international students regularly and they always bring slippers to change into when they come home... I'd love to ask irish friends to do the same but I'm afraid of being seen as "up myself" ...hopefully this will change attitudes

In times like this, people will try anything to be safe. Unfortunately fraudsters will prey on this. While usually only financial impact occurs, doing it now is downright dangerous. I’ve come across this guy before and he clearly is evil. Flies around in a jet funded by his followers. He should be arrested and charged with intentional poisoning.

Healing through the tv is disgusting and disturbing.

With a 52% jump we are on track to be worse than Italy.

It's more to do with a jump in testing as we widened the testing criteria this week.

I noticed on another thread some parents givng out about new restrictions on bringing children into supermarkets

    Two things:

You risk your children becoming infected with a potentially life threatening disease

Children are often asymptomatic and children are known superspreaders of a number of diseases

It has been found that "more than 90 percent of the cases in children had no symptoms, or with mild or moderate illness. However, approximately 6 percent of the coronavirus cases in children were severe or critical"

"asymptomatic children are unlikely to be tested. These children can transmit the virus to other people without them knowing"

Yeah, but it shows that things are worse than they seemed before the increase.

They added breakdowns overnight for about 20 more countries across the globe.

It's nothing ominous. They're improving their site, essentially.

Why home delivery isn’t used by everyone is bizarre. If it’s an option then it should be mandatory. If need fresh air or get out of house then a walk to park is better than a supermarket with crowds of people.

I tried to arrange home delivery and all my local supermarkets had no times available until April
