But you can get it twice?
Some mutation of the virus will come back in winter. This is why It's important to have daylight.

So I haven't been out for 5 days - are people wearing masks now?

    Not really

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 838 ✭✭✭The_Brood

Shocking things in Dublin city center today from all levels of society. Very few people wearing gloves or masks. In the supermarkets older people breathing down the faces of retail workers, counting coins not caring a damn about any virus.

Gardai in the rare times you see them - a bunch of them cornered some guy, breathing in directly in his face close-quarters no mask no nothing standing there for very long time.

Don't understand how all this stupidity is allowed. Life has shut down and so many are doing their best to infect others.

But you can get it twice?

But the world has to go on. You get a bit more immune each time, and there are those that won't get it twice, and so on...the "herd" becomes more immune.

The horse is bolted now. The limited shutdown came too late. Contact tracing has likely been a failure as unless you employ chinese type rigour, technology and numbers its no use.

At this stage all we can do is keep old people isolated.

We were always going to hit this stage when we failed to ban flights early to Italy and when we failed to impose isolation on those who returned from Italy. The Italian fans coming over probably didn't help and the government didn't even bother telling the Cheltenham punters to isolate.

Our only hope now is older people don't get it in large numbers. They probably shouldn't even be going to the shops at this stage.

Contact tracing has been a failure how ??

Compared to other counties we've implemented measures earlier.

Hard to argue with that. Too little too late all that talk of proportionate response nonsense. Still, it is best to try and limit it by slowing it down as best we can.

An Axios timeline has shown that if the Chinese government had acted 3 weeks earlier to contain the virus, the spread of Coronavirus could have been reduced by 95%. Instead the barbaric Chinese gov imprisoned doctors and scientists and muzzled free speech for 6 weeks before they actually did anything.

Seems very unlikely according to latest news.

    The funny thing is -
I own an m8 rated 3M mask but I'm afraid to wear it because people will probably find it funny/suspicious because of helmet policies.

Wearing gloves or mask are useless unless your already ill. It's been recommended time and time again not to wear masks unless you have a respiratory issue.

No need to wear gloves, your potentially doing more harm with them on..better to wash your hands

Pretty sure herd immunity only kicks in once a vaccine is found and given to the young first, we then get the immunity from them.

Never heard of the human race just becoming immune to a virus without a vaccine being given first.

this could & most likely will go on for a year

Where do people see this heading long term 3-6 months+?

When will restaurants, schools, sports events be open to the public again?

I suspect that if they can get it under control in the spring, they'll try to relax things a bit for July - Sept.
But sometime in October, they'll probably have to start putting controls in place again, which might last until Easter 2021, by which time a vaccine will hopefully be widely available.

    but it's a disease

Every sickness is a disease. How about they come round to your house and test you. Full Hazmat, the lot. You test negative, but for the next 3 months you're a leper. Is that what you propose?

This thing is everywhere, stop for a coffee, you'll touch a cup, a stirrer, a lid, a sugar sachet, and a milk dispenser. Every single interaction has the risk of infection yet you think you can track this by knowing where a person lives. Its time people screwed their head on and had a think besides waffling on about lockdowns, diseased people, suppression strategies and all the rest of the panic induced bullsh1t, follow the advice given and get on with life.

That's nonsense. It spreads through air. If you have a mask you SHOULD wear it (if it's rated for viruses). The only problem is that boomers will make fun of you and report you to store security.

The strain in Wuhan is predominantly thought to be milder than the one we appear to have in Europe.
What's happening in Italy with a near 10% death rate is certainly not comparable to a seasonal flu.

The death rate variances are linked to 2 things, firstly and most critical to understand is that where the death rate appears high, testing rates are low which points to the fact that far more people have contracted the virus than is recorded ergo actual death rate is far lower than estimated

The 2nd factor, and this is the scary one, is that health services have been so overwhelmed that the strain on medical equipment and staff is affecting the mortality rate.

Italy has both of these factors at play, so while the mortality rate almost certainly isn't 10% it is probably higher than the average mortality rate due to late action on containment and the subsequent pressure on the health services.

I'm surprised & disappointed reading on this that people are not observing the social distancing.
I go from this is not going to be too bad as everyone doing as told to reading this and getting in panic again that people not helping flatten the curve.
Almost everyone I know is basically in self isolation. I live rural location so pass one or two if walking on road but everyone keeps as much distance as possible.
I like that I don't need to drive anywhere a week since I was in the car.

Same for me. I bought n95 masks when this first started in China.

Something stinks about this virus. How it has moved all over the globe in no time whatsoever. I can't help but feel that it was already rampant throughout the world

    You've heard of airplanes, yes?

But it never travelled far outside of Wuhan, but did manage to get to Europe and the US.

How many Chinese left Wuhan , and how the hell did they manage to infect the world. MAkes no sense. They didn't even infect the City over from Wuhan, but did infect Cock City .

The medical world is fairly unanimous in saying it acts like any virus, you gain immunity.

No that's wrong. Vaccine will give immunity, but no point in giving it to the young first.

They will more than likely be prioritised for HCW.

Had a major falling out with a friend a few months back, we both said some never coming back from that things and thought that was that. Stunned to today receive a text from them saying hope you and the family are doing okay, now feel bad I didn't make the first move but definitely a positive in the middle of all this crap
