Mortgages are to be frozen. Most people still working. If not then they get 200 euro a week. Buy groceries and wait it out like suggested.

What else do you need the money for? Planning on a new car or a holiday? How about a shopping spree?

    This is at the moment.

I'm talking a worst case scenario, with this pandemic lasting for a long time. A "mortgage freeze" won't be good enough.

Seriously, this isn't hard to understand.

And yet you managed to when I "coaxed" you. We can all learn from the why but we learn more about posters without it!

So a poster claims that only over 70s can get it, I answer that that is false (and anyone following this pandemic knows that for a fact) and you have a problem with my post?
    I don’t follow you.

Internet is a killer for shopping sprees

    Genuinely curious about this...

Giving what we know and with the information we have, with a BALANCED VIEW, when do others see places like Cafes, Bars, Clubs, Barbers etc opening back up?

Never. Because everyone will stop wanting food, drink and haircuts when we become a third world country after the virus.

You can isolate the old and vulnerable, not shut down the entire economy and cause a 1929 level depression.
Most people in their 50s will survive it, there will be the odd case of someone who is a heavy smoker or is already sick in some way dying.

Ever thought of running for Taoiseach, or fuhrer...??

Spain isn't even locked down enough.

People should be entirely house bound.
Army, Police and Health Care workers should deliver daily rations and meds.
Dogs should be taken to a converted stadium for kenneling.

I suppose when it's all over we will question whether this was worth shutting down our economy, making 200k people unemployed and putting the country back into recession for years to come.

Weekend estimates of people to be layed off work are not matching the social welfares numbers of people who have taken the emergency payment.
Only one or two reporters have questioned why ,is it because of backlog answer was no.
Any reason why more employer's going down the root of paying the payment themselves and taking deferring of the paye payment.

If people have no income, what will they use to pay mortgages, rents and bills with? Plus buy food and whatnot.

    This isn't difficult to understand.

People will get by, albeit with great difficulty.

But here's the thing. Things will recover eventually. The economy can be rebuilt. You can't bring back anybody that has died.

Life has to take priority over the economy.

My best guess would be in several months. But then only for a while. This will probably not be the last time we go into a degree of lockdown.
We'll need a vaccine and/or treatments to break the cycle and get back to whatever normal is.

I live in Germany. Bavaria specifically which is the state that appears to be reacting the strongest. First I have heard of any "permits". Do tell me more as I knock off for lunch in 35 minutes and planned to spend my lunch break doing my daily tasks in the Harry Potter Mobile Phone game.

Your asking for a lot there horse. A handful of reasoned posters drowned out by two groups, one with a let it kill whoever is needed so their pockets won't be hit and another absolutely **** themselves silly in excitement at the drama, the worse the crisis gets the better, there's some I'd say would nearly be disappointed if we didn't require a lockdown, soldiers on the streets threatening lads at gunpoint and end of days like panic and despair

It's a developing situation. Government and the eu will continue to change policy as the situation develops.
    In the meantime keep calm

I'm not sure why you keep throwing out this isn't hard to understand. Worst case scenario as you seem to be so worried about is that all businesses put on lockdown. You won't have anywhere to spend your savings on.

Yes I agree. One other thing that this study demonstrates is the importance of going to hospital earlier. The people who survived versus those who ultimately succumbed to the virus, went to hospital on average 3 days early than those that died.
    [...]
    Don't be a hero.
Before you encourage everyone to rush to the hospital (not saying I disagree with the overall notion that earlier treatment increases your chances) but if I'm reading your chart correctly, doesn't it suggest that those who waited longer to go to hospital are more likely to survive? (Not that correlation implies causation, obviously, it's reasonable to interpret it as the harder hit needing to go to hospital sooner).

If this lasts for a long time, they might have to look into something like this. Without it, we're condemning a huge number of folk to a hardship they'll have extreme difficulty recovering from.

There's a real prospect of people's savings being wiped out with this. No job, no savings, no home, no future...

    Helicopter money alone won't help.

I think the people who got let go are being treated completely unfairly.
This is not their fault. They did not cause this. They are being sacrificed for the greater good.

The government really needs to step up and ensure no-one goes without during this crisis. It is a crisis and the reason we are taking this approach is to increase our odds of survival. When the economy reboots there will be jobs.

If they don't the social contract is broken and people will act out. We are literally all in this together.

The department of social welfare with all of their complicated procedures designed to make X% of people to drop off during an application at different stages need to stop hindering people in getting compensated.

Lads, if a friend is showing symptoms from yesterday and I was around him on Monday do I need to self isolate, or do I only need to self isolate if I was around someone who is symptomatic?

According to SO'R (earlier) there is expected to be an announcement from the the Dept of Education later this morning. Possibly about extending school closures?

Many of us here are pretty much self isolating and we don't have any symptoms or known exposure to anyone else with symptoms, so I think you can guess what the answer will be

    Good luck with it though

    No.
You need some sort of document from your employer if you're heading to work.
