    I'm well aware of that.

However some posters on here seem to revel in hysteria.

We had one predicting 500 000 deaths in Ireland.

No harm to have some optimism, however wishy.

Just to confirm I immediately said I had made a mistake.

    We will help through choice.

But we will and should never accept a forced lockdown
    Cop on, would you?

I've not advocated a Wuhan style forced quarantine on the entire population of Ireland. But I strongly feel that shutting schools, closing public spaces, etc. is entirely appropriate. I've been living under those conditions since January, in fact.

I have no words that adequately refute this. Really. For so many, dying wont be a choice. Protecting them is.

For most people it won't be forced... most will comply with lockdown measures, if they are designed to save massive amounts of lives! There will of course, be lots of frustrated citizens... that goes without saying!

It's only a very small number of people (such as yourself), that will need to be "forced" to comply with any such measures. For the good of the country, people like you will essentially be told to get over yourself and deal with it.

I would have no issue welding someone like you into your apartment, if that's what it took to protect the lives of everyone else in the country... but thankfully that is unlikely to be necessary for the vast majority of our citizens! ;)

case fatality rate around .63% tomorrow, maybe even .84% or 1%

(based on the 1 known death, plus 30% case increase, plus maybe 1 or 2 extra deaths)

Can someone please explain to me why tour operators (buses) and rental car companies are still operating services to tourists coming here and why we are still letting tourists in to the country? I know we can't stop trade, and businesses need to survive (those that operate in some way related to this field) but I work in a tourism site (interior on maintenance since the site is shut down) and on my way out I was stopped 3 times by tourists (American, Spanish and southern Italian couple that came down from the North on the Wild Atlantic Way route) asking me were we open and where were the toilets. It's like cloud cuckoo land with dozens upon dozens of tourists still.

The adult webcamming industry has been impacted in the opposite way I would have predicted, I assumed more ladies would be online but it turns out many ladies are turning away customers because their children or college room mates are in the house.

if we're letting them in, we need to offer them facilities, transport, hotels, etc...

reminds me of a video i once watched, where there was a knock on the bedroom door at the end, and a voice: 'what are you doing in there mammy'

I get that. Sorry for the rant, it comes from a place of exhaustion (I am currently doing 4 peoples jobs atm) and fear of things getting worse. I don't understand how anyone would want to travel given all that is going on. The people I met did not think it was serious at all and were more angry that we were not open (particularly rude too - except the Americans).

If we go into lockdown, and can only go to the shop, does anyone think we should close off-licences. I just see a load of young people going off to house parties. We need to make those house parties dry.

Younger Adults Make Up Big Portion of Coronavirus Hospitalizations in U.S.

American adults of all ages — not just those in their 70s, 80s and 90s — are being seriously sickened by the coronavirus, according to a report on nearly 2,500 of the first recorded cases in the United States.

The report, issued Wednesday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, found that — as in other countries — the oldest patients had the greatest likelihood of dying and of being hospitalized. But of the 508 patients known to have been hospitalized, 38 percent were notably younger — between 20 and 54. And nearly half of the 121 patients who were admitted to intensive care units were adults under 65, the C.D.C. reported.

There's still someone in my household regularly nipping into town and and socializing daily, I'm going to have to put the foot down tomorrow. That report from the New York times is extremely worrying.

Has anyone any information regarding someone who picks up the symptoms at work & if they have no transport, how do they get home. Has anyone any experience with calling the HSE regarding this.

Age is not relevant when catching this virus and experiencing severe complications but state of your health is.
If your body and health are compromised be it long term disease or condition, sihtty diet and lifestyle then no matter how old you are you will have a bad time with corona.

The independent says Two-thirds of cases are younger than 55 years, with almost one in four aged 35-44 years here.

Even more reason to end migration. Let countries take care of themselves

I have son 18 and daughter 17. They did not set foot outside house apart from garden and occasionaly going with us to shop or post office. Gloves and plenty of sanitizer. We do not use masks yet but scarves or long neck pullovers. We need to delay getting sick as long as it takes so our health system will not crumble like it is happening in some other countries.
You need to lay down a law.

I obviously understand the border issue. When did schools close - less than a week ago? I'll give you the testing. I'm the last person to defend a Tory government but I'm not sure comparing a country of 5 million with one of nearly 70 million is always wise. I'm sure there have been errors in thinking, as there have been and will be in Ireland, but I also suspect certain measures were based on sound thinking regarding managing a population of 70 mil vs 5 mil.

It’s a way of distracting people a ‘look over there, not here tactic’. Also there is far more information about what the uk is doing than what Ireland is doing so people feel safer criticising but for some reason accept the dearth of info from their own government.

50 percent male and 40 percent female....?

They have corrected it. 59 percent male and 40 percent female...still...?
