I think as a country we are doing good .. majority of people and businesses playing ball on recommendations . All local businesses have implemented strict procedures on distances and amounts of people in shops.
Hairdressers, pubs , takeaways and shops that have had to close have done so.
Even people out walking are adhering to guidelines
Yes numbers will go up but if we as a whole continue following the guidelines the numbers should remain manageable.

They are and as I said earlier I went for a long walk and between people walking there was an unspoken understanding of keeping our distance.

A lot of people on that list under 50

Of course. Age isn't a factor for infection, it's a factor for severity. No age is immune.

    No

Some posters will be disappointed it doesn't hit 15k by in 13 days time. Bizarre

    Leitrim still has no cases.

    Woohoo

We seem to mirror NI a lot in our increases I notice. They were relatively low today, 8, and we were a little lower than expected.

So what I get from reading the last few posts we are fairly out of the woods (Thankfully). Assume everything back to normal on the 29th March?

    That was a positive update

Novel processing 900 tests a day

366 cases now in Ireland, Leo reckons they're be 15000 by the end of the month, that's 13 days away!

Is leo just scaremongering or is that realistic?

He's basing it on 30 percent increase per day. We may have 15k by then but they won't be confirmed cases. Italy tested 300000 people to diagnose 30k

We simply don't have enough tests to test 150k people in 13 day's.

For the person that asked about the viewership figures for Leo last night I can confirm that over 1.4 million adults (defined as 15+ in years) tuned in. Highest viewership figures, for the audience, over the last 10 years.

I don't understand why people are so happy with today's results, 74 is a 25%. It may not be a 30% increase but it would be unlikely to get an exactly 30% increase everyday.

He's scaremongering. Leo, Honohan and Harris get together for a few pints every night and have a good snigger about how they scared the sh1t out of 4.9 million people that day.

That's a total without many measures to mitigate it. It's from their current model and is a possibility not a certainty.

So was the 15,000 number if we did **** all and opened what's closed now then ?

At a rate of 30% per day increase, 366 would be 14,400 by the 1st April. At 25% it would be 8,300.

Study from Wuhan. Patients serious enough to need a mask - let alone a ventilator - had a 1% survival rate.

Both. He's not really spoofing....it could very easily go to 15k but with drastic social distancing, we have the power to make it fall well short of that number.

If you look at the numbers per 1 million of population we are actually high enough.
    17th yesterday.
Ahead of the UK, USA and one behind South Korea.

And it's only the beginning. Now is the time to double down efforts. Enact the closedowns we have seen in France, Italy and Spain

Pascal Donoghue was literally on RTE news now saying it before the HSE update.

    Seriously calm down.

He didn't say that. In cases of rent to buy a landlord can apply for a reprieve and he hopes they will pass that relief on to tenants. High hopes I'd say.

Honestly in a week it will be much higher.

I don’t know if it’s just me but by God am I going to appreciate everything so much more when we see the end of this.

I cannot wait to be able to walk into a shop and browse aimlessly, as opposed to going in and grabbing what I need while trying to limit social contact as much as possible!!

There's going to be some party when the pubs finally open. Like the end of WW2.

There is insufficient testing and diagnosis going on.

An additional 30,000 test kits are due to enter the system in the next couple of days, but whether the NRV lab can keep up is another matter, it may require the repurposing of pathology and agri science labs to keep up.

In other words, I believe that level of 60/70 is the ceiling of daily diagnosis and when capacity increases we will see numbers jump up.

Other labs in UCD and other universities around the country are being called upon to help with the effort in the labs, soo the pressure on NVRL will soon be shared more equally, which will facilitate ramping up.

Well, the Taoiseach addressed this in his Monday press conference : he said he's not convinced people need to be quarantined to their houses or that it would be more effective than social distancing.

Of course it would be more effective

I see young lads car pooling to work today and then mingling with others all day
