There is insufficient testing and diagnosis going on.

An additional 30,000 test kits are due to enter the system in the next couple of days, but whether the NRV lab can keep up is another matter, it may require the repurposing of pathology and agri science labs to keep up.

In other words, I believe that level of 60/70 is the ceiling of daily diagnosis and when capacity increases we will see numbers jump up.

Co Cork is close to 550k so not massively different, also first two community transmission cases were cork

Ah so it's county instead of city, ok. Not sure if that's better or worse tbh.

Again not posting in ignorance just a genuine question.

Is there any chance we could come out of this whole situation relatively well compared to Italy etc?

Not looking to be smart just wondering from those that may know a bit more about the situation.

And how soon should we begin to see the effects of current measures and know if they're working.

    Thanks.

Is it? To me, it indicates that we are not doing enough tests and many people remain undetected. They've done around 5000 tests and there are 366 positives. That's extremely high levels being confirmed.

    7%

How is that extremely high when it's people showing symptoms who are being tested?

The contact incidence rate sounds like it's falling, a good thing to slow down the spread.

How long do test results take?

We could be 2 days behind here with results.

    Lets not get too confident.

the usually use the number up to midday if she died after then it would probably be tomorrow

Gonna look damn stupid tomorrow if there is still no increase in deaths

I think they said 6 in ICU.

So the numbers of deaths are still at 2(although that may become 3) and people in ICU is still at six which is an important stat to look at. And the highest number of confirmed cases are in the three major urban areas which is surely to be expected.

Worst case scenario. Probably scaring people into social distancing.

The whole point of his speech is that we as a country are doing everything to stop it getting to 15,000 : he wants it to be well under that

    74 new cases today!

Only a growth of 5 on yesterday’s number. Surely that’s a good sign no?

Number of contacts with cases much lower now, which is excellent. Very high level of compliance on social distancing they believe.

Yeh its not as bleak as some tried to make out.

So you were saying ‘FFS’ because you wanted it to be more?

The numbers are meaningless tbh. The ICU numbers are crucial..

Do we know if 6 in ICU in ROI has increased?

    Still 2.

Only three counties with no reported cases. Leitrim one of them.

Dublin unsurprising 129. Followed by Cork (48) and Limerick (14). Breakdown 18/3

Where did you get the county numbers, out of interest?

Number of test carried out would be helpful if their rationing the test kits and only 100 tests kits tested today but there was 300 tested yesterday then it would paint a very different picture

He's right about the social distancing in general but i feel parents really need to hammer this home to their teenagers. They are the only group i see around that aren't bothered with it. Can we get Greta Thunberg to speak to them?

This. From tomorrow on there will be a bigger increase in those who have coronavirus. The kits are supposed to arrive tomorrow.

Yes it takes 2 days but they're releasing numbers every day.

I still think the numbers here are not bad when compared to other countries at a similar stage.

The homeless wouldn't take homes in Leitrim.
