Just see on worldometers that the death rate for closed cases has jumped up again and is now at 10%.

Do you think this is due to Italy cases or is this the reality if a China reaction is not taken?

    Very worrying.

Just bear in mind 'closed cases' is combination of those who have recovered and those who have died, so death rate is not 10%.

The Italian figures of cases have to be way off. 35,000 confirmed cases but only a 17% increase today which is comparatively good news.

Given that Varadkar is saying we will have 15,000 by the end of the month, and 35,000 has completely overwhelmed the Italian health care system, something is very wrong considering we have 8% of the population of Italy (and therefore a health system with 8% of the capacity).

35,000 cases in Italy would be equivalent to 2,800 cases here (in terms of health service pressure)

There must have been between 250,000 and 500,000 cases in Italy, it's the only way these numbers can make any sense.

There may not be 15,000 officially confirmed cases by the end of the month, but there may be 15,000 cares out there.

A bit like in the UK where the are approx 3,000 confirmed cases but the "experts" reckon it's more like 75,000

It was simply a theory based on the fact that the ordinary flu dies off during the summer.

They were hoping it might happen with covid19 but time will tell.

    Let’s hope it helps.

Depends on whether the healthcare system of any given country can stay afloat. If the number of cases exceed capacity, things go south quickly.

Possibly due to such increased numbers only people who are critical or close to it can be tested in many countries.
Any of the countries hitting crisis point now will have uped tested but prioritised those admitted to hospital.

    She is useless.
The cash for ash book did not paint her in a good light, the inquiry was also pretty scathing, incompetent not criminal basically.

Hard not think this disease has been circulating for months in Europe given how quickly escalating and widespread the numbers are...

The population doesn’t matter. It spreads just as fast everywhere. If anything, the population dictates the size of the healthcare system, which means we’ll hit capacity far quicker than Italy

Just so you know for contactless transactions you don't actually have to touch the screen with your card. You can hold it close to terminal and it will work. Same for mobile contactless payments. Bring your phone near the payment terminal but don't touch it.

No harm to wipe your phone and wallet every so often with anti bacterial wipes just in case.

    Legionnaires Disease.

I don't think Trump is being racist by attempting to rebrand the virus. But he is politicising it.

Russians have been very quiet all the same. Presume their health system is not fantastic. Only a matter of time before it gets out that there numbers are high. The numbers reported are a mystery given their geographic position etc.

147 total cases reported, a 30% increase on yesterday. Most are in Moscow

The Spanish Flu was recognised by the Spanish. The origin was the US.

The World Health Organisation now names the viruses/pandemics so that there will no wrong association with this virus.

The actual origin of Covid 19 is unknown. Although the first major reported cases were out of China, strangely just after the World Army Olympics held there .

Yes, HSE will provide this on Friday and on a weekly basis thereafter.
If the rates of increase are as anticipated then this level of detail will be of questionable value. In effect all you’ll get is a population density map / chart.

Dublin will have one third of the total. Carlow 2%.

When there’s a trend or hotspot to be evaluated it makes a lot of sense but once it’s everywhere then it’s just noise.

I see Arlene finally got the ok from the mainland. Showing real leadership up there....

Sadly she put politics before the good of the people. In the twisted logic of Unionism she couldn’t be seen to follow the initiative shown by the Irish Government. As Joe Brolly said this morning it is still a sectarian state in N.I.

You don't have to convince me. You'd be surprised though how many people slap the card on the terminal for several seconds, completely neutralising any benefit from avoiding contact payments.
