Drug dealers will be going through a difficult period now with their revenues down.

But debts still have to be paid.

We can expect to see a big increase in gangland violence in the coming weeks and months due to unpaid debts.

They do have something to do. Get demented on drugs. Some of my best days were as a kid plastered on hash/LSD on thre couch.I couldn't leave the house. Certainly no rioting.

Organised crime and their clients won't be observing social distancing guidelines, the dregs of our society are going to be an even bigger risk to the rest of us as virus vectors than they already are.

They could start home deliveries? People need something to take their mind of things in these stressful times, theyll make a killing! Lines out the door here in the legal marijuana shops. I think people we afraid they were included in the shutdown of non essential business but apparently they arent and will stay open.

If Weed and Heroin in particular runs out in the next week it won't be long till anarchy breaks out, far more alcohol will be consumed, expect burglaries and joyriding, fighting and localised disturbances to go through the roof.

All joking aside, the reduction in daily street life means junkies will by necessity become more desperate for robbed funds and items to feed the habit. I'd be concerned about amateurish or violent burglaries, particularly targetting older people isolated at home. So please check the security measures of your neighbours and loved ones.

As for the dealers and suppliers, I can't decide whether whats happening now is going to be really really good for the drugs business or really really bad.

A) the pubs and bookies are mostly closed or there is nothing to bet on, so there will be more money for drugs available

Or

the shock of half a million people suddenly going on welfare reduces the demand for overpriced middle class coke and suddenly the big dogs at the top don't get paid and the whole structure collapses.

One way or another, it won't be pretty.

I wouldn't expect any large reduction of drugs into the country.

Most international shipping for regular food and goods is working as usual. The ports will remain fully functional and this is where drugs are smuggled in.

Its noticeable in Dublin City centre with the lack of tourists and workers, drug addicts are making up a larger percentage of those walking the streets as they look to source their gear mostly heroin.
Its similar in rural Ireland, youngsters driving to local car parks buying cocaine off drug dealers , travellers have the rural Ireland cocaine market carved up among themselves and authorities seem to be powerless in stopping their operations corona virus or no corona virus.

I work with addicts and we keep an emergency supply of heroin for anyone who needs it.
