Fair play and thank you to the 24,000 people who have come forward to help in hospitals. Some even coming from abroad !

Yes thanks to them, I'm curious though how they are getting here if flights are halted

Why haven't we implemented a stricter lockdown now?
I would have expected a decree to close most non essential business by now.

Are the decision makers trying to get a balance to keep some level of the economy going?

We know the surge is coming.
We know it's going to be bad.
But we still have a chance to reduce it.

    Why aren't we doing more?

    We don't have the money.

    Read the link https://www.france24.com/en/20200318-avoid-ibuprofen-for-coronavirus-symptoms-who-says

Asked about the study, WHO spokesman Christian Lindmeier told reporters in Geneva the UN health agency's experts were "looking into this to give further guidance."

Isn't that exactly the same source you quote earlier?

All I am asking is where is this information on the WHO website.

The only mention I can find of Coronavirus and Ibuprofen on the WHO website is here:
They should also stay home (or work from home) if they have had to take simple
medications, such as paracetamol/acetaminophen, ibuprofen or aspirin, which may mask
    symptoms of infection

You're clutching at straws now. Besides, I stocked up before the pandemic. Whose laughing now eh?

    Nobody's laughing.

The virus doesn't fare well on hot food. So hot takeaway food should be fine. Cold food such as sandwiches and salads I wouldn't risk.

475 deaths in Italy today...that is pretty brutal

While it is their largest number of daily deaths (previous largest was 368 on 15/03), they have also had their largest number of recoveries today - 1084 (previous largest was 527 on 14/03)

I think he's using it as a distraction for his own failings.

He is actually being very clever. A virus is not a tangible enemy. Blaming it on the Chinese and portraying the crisis as a war like event may work well for the next election. War is usually good for the incumbent’s chances.

He is trying to use the pandemic to his advantage.

Have we not moved on in 100 years?

Ebola and Zika are both named after where they originated so we haven’t really.

I found great confidence in the number of people currently in ICU. 6 atm.

In comparison to lots of countries so far we've managed to keep it relatively under control.

To a large extent that statement will be severely tested in the next week or so.

The county by county breakdown is needed sooner rather than later to make things hit home for those still not taking things seriously

I think the worry is that people in “low” counties will relax a bit too much and neglect vigalance...

To all the people offended that president Trump refered to it as the "Chinese virus", tell me, what do you call the Spanish Flu?

There has been a recent campaign to get that name changed to the 1918 pandemic. German measles next I guess. What about all the eponymously named diseases... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_eponymously_named_diseases

This is what he's trying to do but it won't work. The USA is facing it's worst humanitarian crisis ever and he's done absolutely nothing to combat it. He realises this and is now starting to panic.

Went back to work today ( on a large site).

Absolutely no difference in the way people operated, no communication from both my employer and the main contractor ( bar them sticking up a few posters about the virus).

I have to say it gives a false sense of security after a while and you begin to question social distancing ( there is none here).
Nobody is wearing face masks just a very lassiez faire attitude by all involved ( management included).

I'm between two minds in sending the HSA an email but feel legally they're doing nothing wrong.

Already happening in Limerick, majority of restaurants and some major hotels already shut. Public transport should be next - who in their right mind would take a bus with this going on?

Unfortunately some people still have to go to work and still need to use public transport to do so... What else do you suggest for these people?

Do they have any idea when the peak is going to be. Some analysts in the US are saying its going to be June for them but seeing as they have a much larger population i would assume ours is sooner.

Wow. No it is not true. So you can't accept they now have changed tack. It's as i suspected you can't accept that people are criticising the UK approach because it undermines are, you have to see an ulterior motive.

They haven’t changed track at all. They are implementing measures at the rate that suits them, as they made clear from the outset.

But how does any of this undermine what the Irish government is doing?

Is there any solace in our low death rate or is too early to consider? No smartarse answers ....

A point was made earlier that Italy are testing everyone who died, and including those if they had coronavirus in their numbers even if the death wasnt caused by corona, just that they died with it.

We havent been testing the recently deceased for corona, but he low number is a good sign I believe as some stats given earlier on how to calculate total infected is to calculate the deaths and work from there by multiplying by the average mortality rate. Im an optimist, and as such hoping this is the case and the signs are good, and not that we are just in the early stages.

    What kind of runs?

It's fine and healthy to be out and about just keep a bit of distance (1.5 - 2m) from others where possible.
