With the airports still open it's like the country is a sinking ship and you are tackling the hole below the water line but no matter how good you patch it up there's a steady new flow coming in that you simply can never stop until the airports are shut down.

Ryanair are days away from grounding their fleets by all accounts. It won't be long before air travel in and out is more or less halted, it's never going to be completely closed though.

Asthma, COPD, immobile and 88 years old. Good that poor woman wont suffer anymore.

Anyone else find it absolutely bizarre he is live tweeting about his mother dying.

    I can’t comprehend this.
I spent time in palliative care with a relative and I left my phone in the car when I spent time with them.
This was regular updates on her mum in her final hours. It just doesn’t sit right.
I do hope she is comfortable.

By the way, I presume you're a virologist/epidemiologist? If not, wishful thinking is not a qualification.

So you are assuming the fans had the virus.

Italy had a 12.5% daily increase in cases today. Lowest since the virus was noticed there.
    Based. On. What?

Based on figures released by the Italian government. Not pulled out of thin air like what's currently happening on here.

That'd the infected Holiday makers from Spain/ the Cheltenham wânks blowing up figures.

More than likely just finding people and more people reaching the point where symptoms are showing.

Look at the US. Nearly doubled it's daily figure from yesterday. That isn't because they an extra 900 people got infected a day later. It is because they are rolling out a heavier testing programme. They will find more cases and unfortunately more deaths from the virus. However it will help them save lives over all. Same thing here as we increase our testing even further than we have (the US is a bit behind everyone else).

Aye. The whole thing is tasteless and lacks sincerity. The cynic in me says its to get followers and be told how great you are.

Banning air travel without WHO direction was impossible. Looking back on actions not taken will always show things in a bad light. But I think we are being seen as doing the most before others. U.K. allowing stereophonic concerts with tens of thousands on Friday night is disgusting. U.K. teachers on social media asking do they have to attend school worse.

Nonsense. Other countries did it unilaterly. Speaking of the WHO their advice was madness.

The first thing you do when there is a growing epidemic of something like cv is ban flights to and from that area and worry about legal issues later. Instead our government were afraid to act and its a huge reason why we are facing 15,000 cases by month end. This outcome was entirely predictable.

They tested less today than they did yesterday. Why? I don’t know but it could be they didn’t have enough tests. That number means nothing in isolation.

Might be a good idea to lock this thread, reading between the lines, this is doing harm to those suffering with mental health.

This is a fantastic thread and a great source of information and discussion. I can't see how closing it down would be of any benefit. I wasn't feeling well myself last week and I think it was more stress, anxiety, tiredness related. I was losing too much sleep reading and posting on boards and that contributed to me feeling not very great. So, I began to limit my time here and I feel better for it. I still dip in and out from here and I'm doing better. Closing it down would be rubbish.

Been moved to another building as backup incase our main department goes down. 50 of us where asked to do this. Walked in on Monday and my chair is backed onto the girl behind me, the two chairs are side by side no room at all if I put my arm out to the right I would place it on the guys should beside me. I made the decision to not go in tomorrow until the sort out a better seating plan. And if not I won't be going back. I don't mind getting this virus but I'm not willing to give it to other people who are vulrable like some of my family members. My job by the way isn't very important so it's not life and death if I'm there or not. Just in times like this I think employers need to look after their employees and not have 50 of us jammed into a room like that. I'm very angry over it to be honest. Sorry just had to get it off my chest. But peoples health is more important to me than a job. I'm there 20 years but I'd give it up tomorrow if they are going to mess around like this

Let's discuss again on Friday then. That'll be a few more days.

China only had 22 positive cases today. 19 of those were citizens who have returned from overseas They are going back to work.
Complete lockdown is the only way to win.

A lot of people were taken in by show over substance with Leo's speech.

The reality is the disease is out of control here and no one will take responsibility for the lack of measures that allowed it to get out of control.

Sure. It could also be that less people are coming forward with symptoms. We just don’t know after a single day. Hopefully it is good news.

I’m paranoid about every little symptom I have. Some water went down the wrong way earlier and I was paranoid because I was still coughing sporadically for about ten minutes after. I also had a headache all day yesterday and thought “this is it”, but that’s more than likely because I had my head bet into my phone reading this thread all day. Have developed an obsession with routinely taking my temperature too! I’ve never known it to go above 36

A friend wants to volunteer his services (ex medical scientist) but isn't sure if he's considered high risk or not and should instead be avoiding people. Couldn't get through to GP yesterday and doesn't really want to clog up their phone line or take up their time with a silly question. He was under the care of a consultant but hasn't seen him in around 15 months. It's a heart problem he takes medication for, but he thinks it will be considered ok. It's a pity there isn't a little more info about the underlying conditions given as there seems to be a few people unsure how careful they need to be.

Well you hardly think zero Italian rugby supporters had it surely?

My point is, you're no better than the people coming up with these seemingly wild figures. We don't know. And you're even worse for stating your opinion as fact. "Quote me on that" - wtf?

I do agree with you in that some folks seem to be throwing out mad forecasts, but we can't say anything for certain.

We are being warned about a serious surge. Now I do think the worst case scenario is being put out there - and rightly so imo. Why give anything less? But that doesn't mean it's an impossibility.

Looks like we are entering a new phase of this...

Germany over 2,000 new cases and 9 deaths today

USA almost 2,000 new new cases so far today. Huge jump, pretty much doubled from yesterday. 23 new deaths.

Spain looks like end close to 2,500 today when the full figures come out in the morning. 191 deaths so far for Monday.

You think 100k infections in Ireland is a possibility?

I'm not assuming anything. I'm not making wild claims either.
