Exactly. It’s a densely populated region with an older age profile.

The poster that disagreed with those facts, alluded to the fact it’s wealthy, whatever difference that would of made I’m unsure

None. You and a few others about the only sane posters on here. There's one guy who just keeps posting "we must go into full lockdown now before its too late"

Almost forgot I've work tomorrow, can't wait. I'll be safe but ill be keeping this economy ticking over.

We now have quite a number of state paid teachers who are not working but, being paid.

Why not enlist them for contact tracing?

I thought they are teaching online? or is that just colleges

I know this will probably get lost with the volume of posts but anyone else's mental health suffering?
I'm a carer for both my parents in their seventies ,my mother had a polio as a child so as a result as a curvature in her spine she has copd, had a bad heart attack a couple of years ago and is on an oxygen machine at least 12 hrs a day to help her breathe. My dad also has diabetes and has his other health issues. I'll be doing the shopping for them now so my dad doesn't have to leave the house, I'm just petrified, absolutely petrified I'll catch it and infect them. We also have five or six different carers in rotation coming in to assist me throughout the week. I've found myself sobbing uncontrollably the past few days, the enormity of this if it affects either of my parents, God forbid, I can't even bring myself to type it

Definitely very anxious at the moment and after hearing the amount of cases it might rise to over here.
Then there the uncertainty of how long this virus last feels never ending now and everything else high chance of losing job being in the airport industry.
Overthinking everything at the moment or the possibility of catching this corona.

Could Michael Martin be in charge my next week??

Think the people will want Leo rather than Michael now.

It's a hard situation for all, I also look after elderly relatives who have underlying health issues as do I but I must carry on while being very careful, take care yourself, I do appreciate Leo's speech but it has scaried me even more

It’s really tough for people reliant on caregivers. There must be guidance somewhere on it

Not the Brits, it is the shinners in lenster house.

No, this is a generalised motivational speech. Most of us are already imbued with common sense Leo. We need hard statistics.

Not from what I saw in Dublin today.

It won't get lost in all the posts as people on here understand the worry and want to help.

Could you consider Tesco or Supervalu as they do delivery. I know there's a delay at the moment but perhaps you could set it up for future deliveries if that would easy your mind. Alternatively, if you let people know where you are they'll deliver you you #selfisolatehelp on twitter will get someone to you.

Do you have much of a support network otherwise? Maintain contact with others via phone/messages, especially the people who energerise you rather can those who drain you.

Make time for you too, even if it's only 20 minutes every day when the carers are in. Sit, relax, have a cup of tea etc.

Turn 2 me and my mind appear to offer online counselling if you need support too.

Your situation is incredibly difficult & being a carer is such a difficult job, give yourself credit for all that you are doing.

A few changes to the shopping experience from tomorrow at Lidl's, Tesco etc
    https://www.independent.ie/world-news/coronavirus/coronavirus-ireland-supermarkets-doing-headcounts-as-customers-enter-shops-39053233.html

"Meanwhile, Lidl said that, starting today, it was setting aside the 9am to 11am hours for shoppers aged 65 or older. And starting tomorrow, Tesco shops on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays until 9am will be reserved for those aged 65 and over and family carers.

Iceland said it would devote the 8am-9am hour each day to elderly shoppers and wanted others "to give time to this customer group so they can shop in comfort and safety".

The grocers say notably younger customers will be asked to come back later - but those determined to shop won't be barred unless crowd control warrants this."

Is there anywhere people can volunteer to bring food/supplies to elderly people?? I am trained in food handling and micro /pathogens.

Shop during the middle of the day or early morning. Keep sanitizer in the car and wear gloves while shopping. Throw the gloves away before getting in the car. Obviously don't have too much social interaction for this period

Try not to worry. Just take the proper precautions and you will be fine. If 15000 people get the virus it's still only .3% percent of the population.

The odds are vastly in your favour

This is frighteningly naive tbh. 15,000 will get it by the end of this month. We will be doing well to keep they figure under 100,000.

According to Crisanti, the director of the virology lab of U Padua, as little as 10% of #COVID2019 carriers show any symptoms at all. He sampled repeatedly the entire 3k+ population of Vo ', one of the initial clusters.

This guy says 9 out of 10 people he tested were asymptomatic. So testing has to be widened to include contacts that have shown no symptoms. This is pretty amazing if true.

It's ****ing downright bizarre how the virus is so severe on some people and not on others.

Almost seems like a luck of the draw scenario.

They took too long to form a government and it's too late now to disrupt those in charge.

Its in the country too, I have heard that a whole particular ward in one of the country hospitals is full of Covid-19 patients.

FF have the most seats still.

If they agree a deal which looks like they will Michael will take over.

Tbh, I think there is almost an admission from the Govt that the health service is not where it should be at. And they are making a hard effort bring it up to standard.

That in itself is refreshing to see.

All people want is honesty and transparency. That in itself is very reassuring.
Wait three days at least for a test and then another 36 hrs for a result. up to 5 days after contacting hse. Many will have the virus many might not.

Overthinking everything at the moment or the possibility of catching this corona.

Depending on your health etc, it's not the end of the world if you catch it, and dare I say it - you would probably feel better if you got it, after a number of sh1t days and then got over it - be less of a worry for you.

Govt shill detected. Tone it down a bit and it'll come across as more realistic.
I hope people realise theres a multitude of Government shills right now on these very boards expressing their gratitude at how well the government are handling the situation.
The Irish people are the most easily manipulated people on earth, its truly terrifying.
They talk about Trump, Russia, Fox News, The daily Mail and yet it never occurs to them that their own media are manipulating them...christ almighty...
Yes exactly, the "everyone is stupid except me" attitude is running rampant throughout the Irish population.

    Elderly/ill/immuno-compromised vs young/middle-aged/healthy.

    Standard I thought.
