    I'm not a mlm apologist.

Her and Micheal Martin are both quiet. And rightly so. Now is not the time to have BS political point scoring rows on TV (like that tool on primetime).

The only attempt at this was the talk about a national government formed from every party. The public didn't seem to give it much support. SF said that FG were using the emergency as an excuse to stay in power.

It's hard to imagine what a chimera of a national government would look like, and how it could rationally function. The last thing we need is bickering between three people, each of whom considers themselves to be Taoiseach.

The one thing the current government needed to do was to take this seriously. I think that they may have initially been frozen in indecision, not wanting to take actions that might be unpopular. However they are now making those hard decisions, and are being candid about the position we are in.

623 dead across Europe in the last 24 hours.

Italy and Spain by far responsible for most of that (536).

Italy's number are at least showing signs of stabilising. 345 deaths today, 349 yesterday and 368 the day before. Hopefully the lockdown which came in about 10 days ago is starting to take affect and there will be some easing of the pressure on their health service, but given the lag time it may yet be another week before real progress is seen.

Spain, on the other hand, is going in the wrong direction.

Was that because it was a holiday destination ? Or just it was near it ?

I’m trying to get my head around are the large numbers mostly from densely populated areas I’m sure there’s a graph somewhere I just have to look harder

No, it wasn't a holiday destination, nor was it particularly close to one.

I seem to remember there was map showing the spread of the virus around the world, I think there was one for Italy, too, but I can't find it now and I'm too tired to look for it properly, sorry.

Our leaders are doing everything possible to keep as many people as safe as they can.

They have done so much positive-

    - recruitment in the health care section
    - mobilising the €320 per week for those who lost their jobs
    - closing schools, universities, churches, bars
    - banning large gatherings and events
    - securing more ventilators
    - setting up additional testing centres
    - requesting banks, utility providers & the Revenue to defer payments

What more do people want? We are dealing with the biggest crisis of our time.

Compared to Trump & Boris, their actions are excellent, strategic and reassuring.

It’s €203 a week afaik. €305 a week is if you get the virus.

    Who's having parties?

    What the heck

That wasn't the context of my post that your were replying to.

But there is a party on in my apartment block at the minute. Can hear the "bants".

The things people want to see. :D

Every other country - really? Like Britain, the U.S?

Ireland has been far more vigilant than those, and earlier, but people will even resort to lying, coz Leo? Incredible.

What actions did this vigilance translate to? The US was among the first to ban flights from other countries. Thankfully for us, given our govts inaction, the Italian government basically shut down flights out of north Italy

I dont know if its hypochondria or not but there are tons of people on mumsnet claiming to be having symptoms and a lots who say they are confirmed as having it. If that's true its already rampant over there. None on boards so far is there?

I'd say the vast of them have seasonal flu/cold etc. I though the HSE sayingh that some 90% of tested (the ones who though they had the symptoms) were negative.
Yes hypochondria and paranoia and general fear are also in play and it's difficult to blame people either way...

I am indeed angry at these absolutely vile people using it as an opportunity to take political digs and tell lies. Have a go at them instead of trying to discredit me.

Don't let them get to you. Ignore them, possibly take a break from the internet? Getting so worked up over this is not good for you.

Exactly - 2,000 - 3,000 is more similar....Also that is comparing like for like...Is Italy more heavily populated wise? Do they have older population? We have one serious metropolitan area and that is it.....Figures might even be lower...I don’t know obviously - 15,000 just seemed wild'!!!!!!

It not done my folks any good!! Absolute hysteria and fear at home!!
Italy is almost 3 times as densely populated with an older age profile so I’m hoping those figures don’t come true

Are the testing centres 24/7? Think that would be good for people to just go without an appointment out of hours.

Not 24/7 yet, not enough kits to test people

I'm having trouble getting my 77 year old dad to understand too. Thankfully, his 68 year old wife is aware. We keep in touch by phone every day.

Well I can only go on facts - not people speculating on Internet forums to be fair....

Well it's a fact that 25,000 positve tests have been taken but not the whole population has been tested. I think it's reasonable to speculate a much higher actual number.

Exactly, people just need to worry about hand hygiene, keeping distance from others and looking out for family, friends & neighbors. If everyone does that we'll see this out in the best possible way.

It's all down to us as individuals to get through this

How does that work on a busy bus, Luas or train??

A lad rings me earlier chatting away, " Sure I might call out later"
I told him **** off, he was on the razz all weekend, meeting loads of people.
He only wanted to call as the pub was closed..
Met another lad today, same arsehole village in East Clare " Coranavirus, Tis a load of rubbish"
I moved furthur away, it's not me I'm concerned about but my elderly ill healthed father....
Same overweight Kant has no problem putting ****e up his nose all weekend...
The stupidity/ selfishness of people is mind bogling, actually it's not !!

Poor choice of words. They accounted for the deaths, their health systems, doctors and nurses are doing all they can to save them.

And do clarify what you're talking about.

"Terrifying" - no it isn't terrifying and you're not terrified. What drama queen nonsense.

Yes exactly, the "everyone is stupid except me" attitude is running rampant throughout the Irish population.

Nobody on boards goes out to have a chance of catching anything judging by this thread, a post every couple of seconds!

Again have to stick with what we know....I’m sure there are cases undiagnosed but just pulling figures out of the sky doesn’t help.....At the moment is is approx 250/260 in Ireland and I highly doubt it will be 15,000 by end of March....There was a total of 69 today and I presume (hoping) more and more are isolating....
