Just been told by a friend (mortgage broker with AIB) that she has an emergency meeting tomorrow. Mention of a 3 month reprieve on mortgages. The latter is speculation so don't shoot the messenger.

It is becoming a feature of the measures announced in other countries to help, only a matter of time before it is implemented here.

You'll be shot down because very few agree with Johnson's approach, and because the 'Brits' aren't doing what we're doing.

What do you think about the UK's approach? Even the UK itself thinks it was wrong before, as they have drastically reversed their initial programme (based on, who would've thunk it, bad science).

Imagine having to self-quarantine at-home fighting Covid_19 and you have people out on their balconies screaming and shouting or some wedding DJ blaring 'best of 90's trance. Must be f*cking horrible.

Ireland will not block entry to non EU citizens.

"The UK is refusing to participate in the restriction measure. For this reason, Ireland also cannot participate, because it must preserve its common travel area with the UK on the island of Ireland. But all other EU countries will institute the restriction."

And maybe you can try to understand that all that matters right now is to slow the spread as much as possible.

And what addional dangers are there in having a restaurant which follows high hygiene standards staying open to provide delivery or collection keeping people in jobs?

As you said yourself we're heading for a big economic crash, the more jobs we can keep safely in the coming months will help everyone in the country.

I'll still avoid McDonald's like I always do FYI

Japan has not contained it at all. It has one of the lowest rate of testing in the world

I don't know much about Japan TBH. It's been there for ages and I don't think their health system is going into meltdown like other countries. So even without testing you are not seeing the scenes as they are in Italy. I don't know enough either way to have an informed opinion. Thanks

I don't hear of any companies ranking up production on ventilators. Yes we need trained staff, but that will have to be done swiftly now too, with an experienced person over the team. Can the army help. US & UK say its having companies ramping up production

25-30% day-on-day increases in confirmed cases has brought us to about 300.

If this continues, we should be at 50-60 thousand confirmed cases by mid-April. I.e. one month from now.

Self-isolation is the only way to stop our health system being overwhelmed.

    D.

We won't know until the weekend if the measures taken last Thursday have slowed the pace.

Can anyone confirm that Irish people seeking to come home from countries outside the EU can still do so despite the 30 day EU border closure.

I've heard that it's only for the countries who are in Schengen. I'm not entirely sure though

Who in their right mind would throw a face mask on the ground like that? It should be way beyond a littering fine. This has really freaked out local residents and would potentially undermine the location of test facilities.

HSE and Government actually needs to act on this.

If it's people throwing them out car windows, I'd suggest something like CCTV evidence and an enormous fine.

That's not litter. It's creating a public health hazard and worrying the hell out of people for no reason.

Whoever made the video put them there it's called visual effect

Sounds horrible even before Covid 19 existed

I heard that Proper/ the correct PPE equipment are not being provided to health care professionals in Irish Hospitals due to a shortage. Very worrying as health care workers have became ill , some have died around the world, we do not want this to happen to our health care workers due to lack of adequate equipment/PPE

We may soon have no choice.

You are comfortably the most pessimistic person on this thread. Quite the achievement, well done.

*Yes, but as someone mentioned earlier, the company is a private company & they need to honour their contracts of supply & manufacturing
*Note that all parts come from china, so its only assembled here, so someone has said
*Only the people of Ireland could stop the supply reaching other countries (not the army, guards, government)

Having just this moment to come from work. The problem isn't the number of generators. It's the number of staff who are trained to use them that is the limiting factor.

Not sure why you'd be shocked, McDonald's are known for having very high standards and wearing gloves while preparing food would be a big drop in those standards unless they had an unlimited supply and were changing them every 30 secs

An infection control experiment that was rolled out in a small Italian community at the start of Europe’s coronavirus crisis has stopped all new infections in the town that was at the centre of the country’s outbreak.

Through testing and retesting of all 3,300 inhabitants of the town of Vò, near Venice, regardless of whether they were exhibiting symptoms, and rigorous quarantining of their contacts once infection was confirmed, health authorities have been able to completely stop the spread of the illness there.

But sure if Idris Elba has it and has no symptoms couldnt 50% of the population have this virus allready and not even know !

I’ve seen similar in relation to other celebrities. If they had no symptoms then why were they tested??? Was he in Italy/Chins/Spain???

It's interesting the over 50% of all ventilators used worldwide are made in Ireland. So if everything was locked down, we would have a series stockpile to use as needed (I know that's not how business works, but interesting to see that we can feed ourselves and ventilate ourselves as needed)
    Source?

Simon Harris said that 19 out of 30 new test centres have now opened throughout the country. In relation to the use of buildings, the Minister for Health said there was a very clear mandate from Government to the HSE to open whatever building that's needed

I’m friends with someone who works in ventilator production and they were called into work today when they were scheduled to have it off. Some are also doing overtime on weekends.

If say 50 cases were discovered 2 weeks ago, and 50 cases discovered today, does that mean we have 50 active cases, as the first 50 are now recovered.

I keep seeing people say we how have 292 cases, but how can you keep adding up the cases of 14 days ago when they are recovered? Surely we how have over a 100 recovered?

With the kids off school and people isolating and staying indoors you'd think the likes of RTE would start throwing on a few kids movies during the day and better day time viewing

I would hope they are clean masks that have fallen out of a box, or something. Had they been used, they would've been tied. Hope being the keyword, here.

Do testees even get given masks? It's a swab at the back of teh throat so I imagine a mask may complicate that, also they may need to keep the masks for health care workers.

Anyone living in Dublin CC, whats it like there? Really quiet today I would imagine?

When I woke up today the quietness was quite surreal - normally cars flying over a loose sewer cover on the road, kids playing...made me think for about it all the more

Lady month we ordered 1.7 million face masks gowns etc for our health workers.

    They are well stocked up.

We are handling this well for now.
