So I got laid off work today (tourism and hospitality industry) and while I was told it should be temporary they were unable to say for how long.

So in all honesty, are we expecting the current situation with schools, working from home, social distancing and so on to go on longer than March 29th?
I'm hoping once things go back to 'normal' that my workload will snap back! Seems naive though to think that would be 12 days from now

Would assume closer to 12 weeks and beyond rather than 12 days unfortunately

Isn't it amazing how many experts take the time to offer their opinion here. Surely their talents would be more valuable elsewhere.

Much longer than March 29th, May might be the earliest optimistic "back to normal" time if we follow the China timeframe

It won’t snap back. That’s for sure.

We're very lucky in Ireland all the same. Even in the middle of this crisis we can afford to have numerous virologists, epidemiologists and public health experts sitting at home giving their opinions.

That could be a real game-changer. Made in Ireland as well, although I'm not sure that'll be much advantage to us seeing as we're selling all the ventilators made here. It's not a moment too soon either as there is a global shortage of the reagent used in the current tests.

You've really opened my eyes, clearly your statement makes the HSE immune from criticism. How could I have overlooked this crucial point.

It will probably be more like 12 weeks than 12 days

    They include:

    · 29 male, 40 female
    · 48 are associated with the east of the country, 13 with the south.

Surprised that the female rate is higher then male

I don't think it discriminates against sexes

It will be much longer than the 29th march. I would like to see the government bring forward a minimum wage for all those laid off as a result of this of around €350/week as well as supports like suspending utility bills, mortgages and rents. The cost would be far less than the economic damage done otherwise.

I think there has been a bias towards males getting it, certainly in China, but that could be for sorts of reasons specific to that country.

It's the same with those children gnashing their teeth and stamping their feet about the pubs being closed for a while.

Thank you, I agree. I am sick at the idea of managing on €203 per week with rent and a 5 year old to think about.
Really worried right now but I totally understand it is nobody's fault and it's absolutely in everyone's best interest to stay inside and slow the spread. Just a ****e situation all round.

Is it possible that people could contract this and recover without ever knowing they had it?
Or are the symptoms eventually undeniable?

The initial management in Ireland, and Europe in general, was diabolically bad. Absolutely embarrassing.

However the Irish government seems to be finally pulling its act together. I think it's appropriate to give them our confidence at this stage. We need national consensus.

Just back from a drive around Sandymount, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey. We stayed in the car. The roads were busy. Can’t complain about that as we were contributing to it. But not much social distancing happening in any of the scenic areas we passed by to be honest. There was quite a lot of people out and about.

Went for a drive around Howth, Clontarf around 3ish, traffic was mental coming back around 4.30.. saw quite a lot of people out walking dogs, just with friends and some families out walking too, was very busy.

Thinking people just grateful to get out in the mild fresh air and away from the television... worst thing you can do is be a doom and gloom merchant, stuck to the news, the statistics, inhaling all of it, live your life, be real, ok cautious but we’ll survive...

But if they named the counties would that not then lead to people locating to counties with no virus and then spreading the virus further?

If for example Co. Clare was showing clear in 2 weeks time and I'm in Dublin with a through the roof number I'd certainly be heading west with my flask, sleeping bag and possibly a dose of the virus.
Mightn't be brightest idea you'll have. Lot of underutilised cáman in Clare at present.

Not sure if much help but Lidl are recruiting extra staff at the moment across most stores, worth applying for if it suits

Lots do. The vast majority of the rest have mild symptoms
