Are you for real. Do you really think we just sit tight long enough and this goes away. And btw we will have nearly 1000 respirators in a couple of weeks

A respirator (or ventilator) is just a physical machine. More important are the resources provided to the patient in that ICU bed. A patient on a ventilator will require extensive monitoring equipment, to ensure that the ventilation strategy is appropriate. This is a non-negotiable. Furthermore, their blood-pressures and heart rates are labile from the infection/on the ventilator. Hence, they need special monitoring equipment for the blood pressure. And then come the infusion required to maintain that blood pressure. And then if the kidneys aren’t working, you need to add in a dialysis machine. Finally, you need very experienced personnel to monitor the patient and to make the necessary adjustments to care. Unfortunately, much to the chagrin of every ICU staff in the country, it is not as simple as “plug them into the ventilator”. The “extras” are in fact essentials to ensure good outcomes (I.e. patient survival)

We need to do everything that we can to prevent the spread of the infection. Every person that spreads the infection by flaunting the government measures, jeopardises the health of the healthcare staff providing them care, of their elderly relatives, of the vulnerable groups in society.

That said, I have faith in the resourcefulness and resilience of our hospital system. The critical care system in this country is top notch! And remember, even in the highest risk groups, most people will not reach the point of needing critical care (I.e.Special medicine through a drip to increase the blood pressure +/-ventilator+/-dialysis) Ireland will get through this crisis!

Please don’t contribute to the spread! If you are not affected, you may hurt somebody that you care about

Will there be a lockdown implemented do you think ??

I would say it is more when rather than if.

The vagueness in the areas affected is odd.

Surely if they released some more clear detail, people would be extra vigilant?

Not saying they need to release Eir Codes, but something more tangible than East, West, North and South...

There is plans to release detailed data... County level, ages, if the cases are severe or not. Bit no timeline yet.

New measures signed off in the cabinet sub committee this evening
-Power to shut down mass gatherings
-Power to detain someone who has COVID 19 but wont self isolate

Will be passed in a Dail hearing tomorrow

    Credit - RTE

If anyone had suggested that the government would be seeking any such measures a few months ago imagine the outrage it would have caused. Now many people are saying they should go much further. Unbelievable how much things have changed in so short a time.

Swiss hospitals face collapse in 10 days if virus keeps spreading

I'd imagine even shorter time for Spain/France. Germany seems to be holding out a lot better.

Nope. Never suggested it. But barraging the health syetm is literally (as we are learning) the very worst thing we could possibly do.

No way of stopping it. But slow it down.

Would Limerick be classed as South or West even?

Expect the big figure tomorrow when everybody is back testing patients.
Laboratories that are carrying out testing are working 24/7, like they always do.

There’s very little upside to any of this but maybe one is when all this blows over we will be left with a better health system than we had previously

Italys cases are actually falling 12.5% rise today, 13% yesterday. 25% daily rise pre lockdown.

Lockdown isn't going to show true effect for at least 2-3 weeks. There is lag on test results and up to 14 day incubation period for the virus remember

Exactly this, I dont know why people are getting so worked up about increasing numbers and stating oh they shouldn't be going up now that we've closed pubs, people working from home etc.

We wont see any change for at least a week if not 2. You dont see results of anything imposed for that long

Statistics with detailed breakdown on cases to date will be released on Friday and thereafter on a weekly basis, to be accurate in documenting cases up to day before release. Will detail how many cases by region, county, how many were via community transmission and presumably how many cases to date are recovered and are in ICU currently.

Just from the percentages side, I know they are very manipulated. So 80 percent will get it but we also heard only 50 or 60 percent of the population wil get it so thats 80 percent of that amount. Talking about herd immunity which will happen and lack of reinfection which should happen. So the other 20 percent which is a left over of the 50 or 60 percent, I'll stop calculating now, so if anyone can reflect on that?

Would Ireland turn out better if we added in one of Boris Johnsons techniques and if Ireland was to ask the over 70s to self isolate or reduce their - outings. Our health service might be able to cope a little bit better.

    That was my take too.

I'm not seeing it like that, to quote trump " Ireland...does alot of work for us, a very tremdous producer. And we are looking to bring alot more back home. And I've been, excuse me you know me for a long time..."

The question was about signing an executive order to bring pharma manufacturing back to US.

Does anyone else feel their head is melted already. I find working from home really isolating, it's difficult to do what I do without access to a printer etc. which I don't have. I have OCD so the idea of passing a virus to someone is crippling. I have a young child so it's difficult to work anyway. I feel like I need to man up tbh people have suffered through way way worse. I'm probably way too much of a snowflake but it does make it difficult to cope!

I was thinking of people of contamination ocd when this broke out as it be must be very difficult. While it is isolating and difficult it is nothing in comparison to what is going on compared to other countries at the moment. From tomorrow I’m going to structure my day so there is some routine.

I have been thinking how lucky we are to live in a country that has access to a lot of the things we do that we take for granted. Eg going to work, school etc. So many countries don’t have this freedom at all.
