The EU have been a disgrace as usual, they don't care about people, only power. Look at Russia, HUGE population, closed borders in January - no deaths.

    lol

North Korea had the right idea all along. Let no one in or out, ever.

Them and the people in the German Big Brother house have no idea of Covid19.

Wouldn't run out if so many people didn't keep requesting tests when they clearly aren't infected.

I know of 2 people who got tested after ringing the gp, neither matched all of the symptoms but still got referred on.

    Needless strain on the system

Very hard for the doctors to make the call just by talking to someone and they're probably afraid of making the wrong decision. Easier just to get everyone tested.

    No surprise given Trumps nonsense

Why blame Trump? Its still a dickish move to pull off given they know the NYT and WaPo are ardent opponents of his administration and they can't be bothered to differentiate between the US press and him.

Given their fatality rate seems to be twice, if not three times the rates of other countries, we could probably say their genuine infections are at least double what they've announced.

Italy's death rate is high because their health system is totally swamped and people who could be saved by getting treatment aren't getting that life-saving treatment. In other words, and I'm not meaning to be harsh on Italy, but they are being left to die becuase they can't treat everyone.

Has the virus hit southern Italy in any major way yet?

Would imagine numbers would be a whole lot worse if it gets a hold there.

I'm sure I saw images/video of passengers being allowed to board trains in the north and return home to the south over the weekend. Madness if that is really being allowed to happen.

    It’s going to hit everywhere

No solidarity whatsoever. They abandoned Italy.

The EU has no competence in Health matters... that is up to the individual countries.

I know why you are saying but we don't know the real truth.

Italy’s situation extrapolated to Ireland will result in how many deaths? It’s going to be strange to see on the News “50 or so deaths” while also trying to understand why life has just stopped.

It will absolutely ,t be tragic but the numbers will feel so small and I think people may just get over it so to speak
Not if a couple of those are your family members.

I wanted Italy to show progress, DAM!!!

One thing I see around the world is it's every country for themselves, EU??? Yea right, they abandoned everyone when the chips were down !!!
How have the EU abandoned people exactly?

Or it could be the fact Italy has the oldest population in Europe with 23% of the population aged 65+.

Of course, I know that. But even still, I’m sure people have lost people here. Life went on. I was back in work 3 days after my old man passed. And keep in mind I was like 25 with no mum either.

    You trust Russian figures? Seriously.

Yes because they did what needed to be done, closed borders. There's a reason why Europe has been so badly hit - open borders. Free travel within the EU whilst economically advantageous, needs to be abandoned. But that wont happen thanks to our Brussels overlords.

Don't expect an answer, just random word vomit with no sources to back up any claims. "They just have" is about the best you'll get if anything.

Oh jesus, I was wondering when you would turn up. you don't think Russia's figures are remarkably, some might say suspiciously, low, considering they share a 4,000km border with China, for starters? And how many tests have they done, I wonder...
