Spain up 2000 cases and 200 deaths in 24 hours. It's really getting out of control there.

Madrid has the highest amount in the country what's that about? Over 4,000 cases in Madrid alone and 355 deaths.. yet the rest of the cases are evenly spread out throughout the rest of spain

Yes because they did what needed to be done, closed borders. There's a reason why Europe has been so badly hit - open borders. Free travel within the EU whilst economically advantageous, needs to be abandoned. But that wont happen thanks to our Brussels overlords.

    More fool you.

Them and the people in the German Big Brother house have no idea of Covid19.
You think they North Korea is safe? Once it takes hold there, it will spread like wildfire because there is a non existent health service.

Simply the fact that it's the big population centre and the most dense in terms of people mixing.

You'd expect Dublin to be the same when the numbers start rising here.

Germany has closed it's borders. The EU are not stopping anyone closing their borders. You sound like an idiot Brexiteer.

Afaik, Madrid's population reacted much the same way ours did when it was announced about partial closures. We went to the pubs, and they also stuck two fingers up at the warnings and tried to ignore the warnings about social distancing. This is the reprecussions...

Are people travelling back from England today meant to self isolate for 14 days?

People probably that have nothing wrong with them or just a sniffle thinking they have it looking to get tested
It seems those that used to be taking up space in A&E have now resorted to taking up the phone.

Or it could be the fact Italy has the oldest population in Europe with 23% of the population aged 65+.

Sorry if its already been asked...
But how did Italy come to have such an old population?

I wonder is there something significant coming this evening with a prime time special on tonight...
It's not a scheduled programme only announced this afternoon..

Of course, I know that. But even still, I’m sure people have lost people here. Life went on. I was back in work 3 days after my old man passed. And keep in mind I was like 25 with no mum either.

So you know full well how devastating it could be.

People are not grasping this yet. 5-15% of people aged 50+ will die, the number gets higher the less care we take. 1 in 20 above 50yo will die. This flu isn't being stamped out, just slowed down. That's the very best we can do. Slow it down to let hospitals take care of the rest.

If we slow it down it's a seasonal virus that takes out a minimal amount of people every year. If we don't it culls hundreds or thousands of the weak and aged every year and society becomes this weird antisocial thing we're living through.

No solidarity whatsoever. They abandoned Italy.
Not an EUphile but in fairness they didn't, EU of it's nature is slow. France and Germany on the other hand flushed Italy down the pan to ensure the safety of their own citizens.

Maybe, just maybe, people will realise that the first duty of a state is, as it always has been, the protection of it's citizens.

But perception is all, the EU definitely has a problem .....

“I say to foreigners: don’t come to Serbia, except for the Chinese who are called upon to come, their doctors, the people who help us,” Vučić added.

The president, who is trying to lead Serbia into the European Union but has also fostered warm ties with Beijing, said China’s help was crucial amid a lack of “European solidarity”.

Apparently China is beating this virus. Can they send over some ventilators to us?

Probably just a gathering of thoughts on where we are. Forecast of big numbers daily was a new thing and now the plan has been published etc.

They'll be preparing for a second wave I'd imagine, they won't be giving away anything that they'll possibly need.

UK announce a big headline figure of supports of 300bn pounds but it comes in the form of loans which I imagine would be as welcome as a dose of the virus itself. More debt, just what every business wants.

    Italy 7.94% mortality :(

Why are people reporting this figure. It’s a waste of time. It’s may as well be a randomly made up number that’s just causing panic.

Everyone knows we don’t know the true number of infected so it’s definitely not 7.9% unless Italy have tested every single person in their country.

Italy's death rate is high because their health system is totally swamped and people who could be saved by getting treatment aren't getting that life-saving treatment. In other words, and I'm not meaning to be harsh on Italy, but they are being left to die becuase they can't treat everyone.

    Please !

Italy's death rate is high because they only tested seriously ill people!

Can people please get the message - "Confirmed cases" is totally dependent on how many tests are done and what the criteria for testing are and these vary from country to country.

A lot of people in Italy died and are dying because the virus is rampant there and they are a few weeks ahead of the rest of us.
