    He totally ruins it by making the assertion that he was way ahead of the curve in fighting the virus but credit where it's due

    If the situation carries on into the summertime will the increase in temperature make a difference. I'd be more worried then as having to sit inside during high temperatures is going to be very uncomfortable for people and would make them more likely to spend time outdoors.

    Just back from a drive around Sandymount, Dun Laoghaire and Dalkey. We stayed in the car. The roads were busy. Can’t complain about that as we were contributing to it. But not much social distancing happening in any of the scenic areas we passed by to be honest. There was quite a lot of people out and about.

    I think we’ll stay like this till June, then gradual return, with elderly and at risk groups being asked to self isolate. Employers will have to try and accommodate remote working for employees in the at risk groups. Schools will go back early I think maybe even end of July, and then I think we’ll need another period of the current measures if this comes back with a vengeance as flu season kicks in

    Was out and about and steady flow of traffic but decent show of distancing on footpaths with some nods and smiles from 6ft or more.

    Absolutely NOT what the article says.
    It WILL consider if the approach they have taken doesn’t work.
    Currently they are not in lockdown and schools and business open.
    Interestingly they are very similar in size and population to us

    Already 1000 for the US today. They must have started seriously testing.

    Good measures from the US. Incredibly late but looks like they will need to deal with a lot of damage that was already done. Even bringing in some proper social welfare. Even if it is just for this period.

    We need to keep the numbers affected down. Remember every 3 days if we are doubling in that period we are in serious trouble going by other countries. So in other words if the number today is less than 78 from Saturday's figure which was 39 we are doing whats needed.

    Well that's not factually true, a tiny percentage of able bodied worker will be affected.

    He was banging that drum years ago too. What the idiot doesn't realise is that these Pharma companies must have sites to test and manufacture in the EU and other regions.

    I think he means we develop 40% of the worlds ventilators thats needed to fight this

    This virus is here to stay so we have to face up to it eventually. We cannot hide away for ever. Once we relax controls it will just spike again. We need a certain% of people to get the virus (and recover) so the rate of transmission slows down.

    He can through tax incentives. A couple of years back he brought serious amount of corporate taxes back to the US through an amnesty if I remember correctly. It would be a huge political win for him to increase US control on their supply chains

    No we need to slow it to give them time to test for treatments. If the treatments work that gives us time for a vaccine.
