Press conferences getting later. Not a good sign.

Significant increase from yesterday - tweets on rte! Not good at all - the next seven days are critical to prevent the spread aswell is what's being said wonder does that mean something else is being announced tonight?

Didn't they 180 on it today anyway and start locking stuff down? I mean it may be too late but it is better than continuing on their previous strategy

No they recommended you don't go to a bar or a nightclub, they didn't mandate it or ask them to shut, you can see how effective this is going to be looking at the video above from Benidorm.

Something has to be done, as we seen from over the weekend there are many who are unwilling to heed the advice from the govt therefor with the current restrictions in place, people are still likely to risk being out and about

The UK cases to deaths really stands out. Showing what they are doing. Or not in this instance.

If Idris Elba wasn’t showing any symptoms how would he know to have got tested??

He said in his video that he came in contact with an infected person last Friday, so got tested.

Some bits of info I've picked up and experienced in the past week. I know there are other health care professionals here too. If anybody thinks I should remove this by all means I will. I'm going to be as vague as possible.

The ambulance service is inundated with calls for respiratory problems the past 5 days. Slightly busier than normal but this may vary from region to region. All of these calls are getting an ambulance. These are 999 calls and not HSElive referrals.

Lower acuity and non urgent calls are being asked to make alternative arrangements. Only those who really push for an ambulance are getting it for these calls.

There's a seperate team doing the swabbing: For a certain province (not going to specify) there was over 300 calls waiting for swabbing. Some of them are sitting there well over 24 hours. We don't have enough resources to get to them all immediately.

The hospitals, A&E's and wards are empty. I said this last week, but so many wards have only 5-10 patients on them. It's eerily quiet, I was chatting to some nurses and they're really uncomfortable with the atmosphere (as am I). Feels like calm before the storm.

One A&E only got 3 walk in admissions in an 8 hour time span according to a nurse. Ambulance arrivals remain somewhat similar but mostly for respiratory problems.

There's also talk at the moment that another doctor in a certain hospital has tested positive in recent days. They were working in a specialist area treating vulnerable people the past week.

Just popped into the local Tesco for a bag of salad there's a palpable tension out and about this evening, I drive for my commute and didn't leave work today so was unaware.

Feels like it could all kick off if someone stood to close or coughed. Not a nice feeling feel quite uneasy after it.

    It's all in your head.

The longer this goes on, we might wish we took a UK attitude towards it. ( let it burn through the population) I really hope the quarantine in Italy works. Otherwise It will be death by a thousand cuts

By burn through the population you mean throw the old and others with medical conditions to the wolves basically?

Prepare to be inconvenienced for the next 6 months at a minimum.

I feel so sorry for all the clowns who were looking forward to having a histrionic breakdown once today's numbers were announced by the HSE.

They have to wait an entire 2 hours now before they can exaggerate how dreadful the increase is and blame the government on everything...oh yeah and blame the Brits, Pub Owners, Teenagers, Donald Trump, Italy, Spain and China and racing fans ..., how awful. Honorable mention to Dub bashers, it is only a matter of time really ( I actually started Cork bashing last night, I didn't want to leave them out tbh)

Hang tough imbeciles. Your time will come ( in about 1 hour 40 mins ).
Do not post in this thread again

Thanks for that. I was getting an RTÉ News Right Now alert to my phone for the last week or so around 5 to 6 and nothing this evening.
I wondered if they’d decided to leave the daily announcement to the 9 news.
I wonder how long they’ll keep it up anyway.
“Day 123. 456 more cases. 201 in the east, 155 in the south 100 in the west. 15 sadly have died. Pubs and clubs and schools continue closed. That is all”.
