Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Corona virus is about control. Government tell us what to do etc. The virus could have been stopped by the government by closing our borders but they knew all this and still let everyone come and go.

We have an open border with another country how can we close it and who would we restrict as they are Irish citizens who are infected?

Open borders with what country? The Government have not revealed the nationality of those infected. If Ireland had controlled borders this wouldn't have escalated so quickly. Just look at the precautions other countries have taken at their airports, examining people when they got off planes etc but in Dublin airport the HSE were just handing out leaflets to passengers about the virus and sending them on their way without even checking like other countries.

The examinations were basically theatre, missed people with it and sent lots of people without it in to clog up hospitals.

The latest discussion thread on the more general issues surrounding the Coronavirus is here and thats where general discussion should take place.

Its great to have a thread running here so we can post on the local issues and how people in Donegal are affected. Details of whats closed, whats postponed, visitor restrictions to hospitals and nursing homes, availability of hand sanitiser etc etc can all be posted here.

Not sure about other places but St. Josephs hospital in Stranorlar have stopped all visiting since last Saturday.

Was looking for sanitizer in a couple of shops in the twin towns area and none of them have it in stock.

Millbrae Surgery in Stranorlar wont see patients with respiratory problems but are sending them on to a clinic in Convoy where they will be suitably masked, robed etc and tested.

Was in Dunnes this evening at 7:30 as I usually am on Monday, Wednesday and/or Friday after the class I do. Can't remember the last time I saw it so busy at that time. Was talking to one of the ones working there and she said it wasn't even that busy at Christmas.
They had some toilet paper, but it was some recycled type I've never seen before.

muffler, seems that thread link you posted seems to be for a restricted forum.

Oops, sorry. That is indeed a restricted area. I've edited my post to include the correct link.

Wow, that thread (and topic) is fast moving. Thats the sixth thread on the tipic as they have to be closed at around ten thousand posts. The latest thread was started just after midday and there's over 2,200 posts already. Frightening

lol, nah nothing as dodgy as that. :)

There's a dedicated spot in the mods forum where all reported posts go and every mod can see those reports regardless of what forum they were reported from. Given the nature of the topic its a fast moving and popular thread (the one I linked to) and there are literally dozens and dozens of reported posts so it was easier for me to find the thread I wished to link to from looking at the reported posts rather than trawling through other forums for it.

Still no confirmed cases in Donegal, being remote may have its advantages :)(touch wood);)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,992 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Hand sanitizer seems to be the one thing you can't get.

    You'll find everything else.

But if its for the house, ordinary soap does the same job and works just as well.

I was looking for some sanitizer for my elderly mothers house so visitors could clean their hands without need for water should they visit. Tried about 8 chemists, none around. 4 of the chemists even had a sign on the door to stop you wasting your time coming in asking for it.

A couple of hours ago I was told about a local woman who has the virus (allegedly) and is in self isolation. She only came back from Lanzarote in the last few days apparently. I'm hoping it's gossip but she was named by a friend so it's most likely true.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,132 ✭✭✭malinheader

Big talk of two cases in inishowen. Not confirmed 100% but alot of different sources have the same story.
I hope it's not true but only a matter of time.

3 confirmed cases in the North west.

A bit of third hand info but it was relayed to me from good, trustworthy sources....it seems like there's going to be some big announcement tomorrow that will result in a lot of establishments having to close. That came from a Garda source (not in this county) and Im hoping its wrong but from reading the posts above it would seem credible.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,132 ✭✭✭malinheader

Seaview tavern closed from 8 this evening until further notice. That's all eating and drinking establishments closed in malin Head now.

I think its safe to say that they want to shut things down BEFORE St Patricks, to limit the crowds.

My guess is it'll be the same as the school shutdown. Everything at 6pm.

So when the shops, businesses etc close tomorrow, the only things allowed to re-open will be essential stuff like supermarkets, food shops, chemists.

A massive decision but one that has to be taken.

McElhinneys store in Ballybofey is now also closed. That alone will automatically shut down a couple of other places as they depend on the customers of that shop popping in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,305 ✭✭✭✭muffler

Finn Valley bar and restaurant in Stranorlar closed from 6 this evening. I would imagine that will probably cancel all athletics training and runs etc

Cheers bar and the U Drop Inn in Ballybofey now added to the list of closures

Millbrae Surgery in Stranorlar closed with immediate effect .... all appointments cancelled. Thats a massive shock

Have you an more info on this? I see my GP, Millbrea is closing, and guess who is my pharmacy? Can't see anything on Bonner's facebook or website saying they are closing?

I have script needs renewing this week and an injection due. I've emailed the GP as their facebook is saying not to phone the surgery....

    Thanks

God you would wonder at that Is this a doctors surgery

People will still want to see a doctor about other ailments

Is that because there's a need to deep clean because of a possible contact? I know there's been at least one confirmed case in Donegal, so maybe this was another case (the one I know of is not in Stranorlar) who went to their GP before the diagnosis was given?

I can't see any reason for closing a GP's surgery otherwise.

Reem Alsalem UNSR Violence Against Women and Girls: "Very concerned about statements by the IOC at Paris2024 (M)ultiple international treaties and national constitutions specifically refer to women & their fundamental rights, so the world (understands) what women -and men- are. My wife read it on their Facebook page. I'll see if I can get it tomorrow and copy and paste here.

Basically they are saying that you cant come to the surgery without first talking to the doctor by phone. Only urgent cases will be seen and "urgent will be decided beforehand by a doctor" but anyone with potential Covid 19 symptoms will be tested by the national ambulance service. What makes it worse is that they are asking people not to ring except in an emergency. Prescriptions can be got by emailing them but I think same will then be sent to the patients choice of pharmacy - no collecting at the surgery.

I think they'll have to let many other businesses stay open, Hardware shops, petrol stations, plumbing & heating supplies, Garden centres (people have to have stuff to do) Electrical supply places, Builders merchants, Butchers / bakers, physio therapists, just off the top of my head..

I had a doctor's appointment for next Thursday but the surgery rang to cancel it today, saying that that they weren't taking routine appointments. I explained that it wasn't 'routine' as I had never seen a GP about this matter before and that I had been advised by a consultant to see a GP ASAP about it. But, no joy! I was told to ring back next week. Sure I might as well get Covid 19 and maybe they'll sort both problems at once! :):):)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,815 ✭✭✭lulu1

Just had a message from a friend telling me about people we both know who have been advised to self isolate, yet she has seen them in the shops in town

So is there any use in talking

I dont intend to leave the house and want to see no one coming to the door

Glencar inn, Letterkenny open last night and had a great crowd in

I heard that there were 3 cases in Buncrana all associate with travel to/from North Italy last week. It came from a reliable and connected source too.

No admission to Flatleys chemist in Stranorlar. They have a table of sorts acting as a counter set up just inside the front door and whether you're there to get a prescription or something off the shelf then you stay outside on the footpath and items/money exchanged at the door.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Had a table booked for Mother's Day at Harvey's Point. Was planning on cancelling but decided to wait and see if they cancel first. They did.

Or maybe you'll get it and give it to others in the Gp surgery who give it to elderly and immunocompromised and result in them sicker and hospitialized. Maybe you get it from some other sick person at the GP surgery and end up on a ventilator struggling to breath. Maybe your actions of demanding to be seen results in one way in the death of somebody? Maybe you make a telephone call and get to talk to the GP or nursing staff as a telephone consult and let them decide how urgent they feel it is to be seen.

    just my 2 cents

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 239 ✭✭JoannieG

I haven't 'demanded' to be seen. I have already been on a ventilator struggling to breathe. I am myself immunocompromised. I asked to talk directly to medical staff on the phone, but no one was available at that time and I'm still awaiting a call back. I had surgery 4 weeks ago today, the 5th in 6 months, and it was my consultant who advised me to see a GP ASAP. I rang for an appointment as soon as I came home from hospital and this was the earliest I could be seen. I am trying to prevent a worsening of my condition which will result in me having to go into hospital unless the issue is nipped in the bud very soon.

    Just my 2 cents!
