    How is this still happening?

Spotted a tweet from someone who’s just been to kiss the Blarney Stone?!?

Mind boggling! If anyone is involved in journalism or health services on this thread, please consider looking into it.

Loads of groups of kids meeting up in the housing estate and down the town. Can't see that closing the schools will have any effect on the rate of spread what so ever.

Looking like a very dumb decision.

It wasn’t a dumb decision- it’s the dumb parents here that are the problem

Big difference between meeting outdoors in the fresh air and sitting in the same room as 30 people for 6 hours a day in a confined space, or 500 under the same roof or sharing a playground.

You still favour the herd immunity approach don't you. Italy tried that.

Well, at least teachers are safe and will be able to serve the next generation.

For every kid who does this, there’ll be a dozen who don’t.

Again. People seem to think closing the schools is to stop the spread. It’s not, it’s to slow it down.

There’ll always be idiots, there’ll always be selfish people.

But the actions taken still drastically reduce the numbers of people who are going out, as a sizable portion of people, the vast majority really, will do as told and take precautions.

Could have an effect if everything else is shutdown except food shops and pharmacies. Otherwise as you've seen nothing much changes, the kids are still out and about or with grandparents and the parents are still at work.

This is part of the reasons why a full lockdown is 100% on its way. I dont believe the Monday rumours but could easily happen by end of next week.

While it would take at least 12 to 18 months to ensure the vaccines are safe for the general public, under Chinese law, they can be deployed earlier for urgent use in a major public health emergency, as long as the benefits outweigh the risks.

Same applies everywhere, you are not going to inject your entire population with god knows what.

Surely the parents have some responsibility here, to prevent them gathering in big groups (and preferably keeping them indoors). The whole point of the government directive was to prevent inevitable and unavoidable groupings when kids are in schools/colleges. Now the control of this has been given to parents/guardians and even the kids themselves.

How many European countries are following the UK model?
    France has closed schools starting next week, but is still holding the local elections (France, meet Iran);

Germany has not yet closed schools nationwide.

Both France and Germany more careless than UK, however, because they had defined epicenters (such as the Oise in France) which they could have locked down (as Italy did with Codogno) - but they chose not to.

A thread for facts/updates only. Everything must be from a valid source. No chit chat.

If you want facts go to the Irish Times, The examiner or RTE.
No harm get the fact hoors out of here.

He he re-using the same mask?

You can re-use a cartridge style mask. Obviously disinfect the exterior and wash your hands on removal.

What exactly do you think that entails?

And where do you think they'll find the people to police it when they can't even police O'Connell Street properly?
