More horse****. You are welcome for my time that I used to protect people who may believe your uniformed ramblings.

Yup, clearly closing schools helped in a big way in 1918 and would help today. The big problem today CE is how society has changed since then. In 1918 the vast majority of married women were housewives not working outside the home. Childcare was their job and wasn't an issue to nearly the same degree as it is today where in the vast majority of cases both parents work outside the home to earn a crust. Hell if this had kicked off in the 60's, 70's, even much of the 1980's here in Ireland with far fewer working mothers it would be a much easier thing to implement. Today what do working parents do with their children?

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Looks like Sweden are taking a leaf out of our book, idiots.

This is why we should be careful with the online cases dashboards. Ways of counting and accuracy of figures varies a lot from country to country. So comparisons or aggregate numbers should be taken with a pinch of salt.

IMO Sweden are taking the right steps

Reporting numbers confirmed numbers IS pointless.

Maybe she didn't flush the toilet until she was leaving. It doesn't mean she didn't wash her hands.

Wash your hands, then touch dirty toilet handle? Kinda defeats the purpose of washing them.

Army shutdown of the country from Monday. Taoiseach will make announcement early Monday morning. Everything closed except shops on a restricted basis. No one going to/from work except those with special permission.

Basically Italy. This is the reason the army have been drafted, Garda do not have resources to police such a scenario.

    Says who?

HSE currently in the process of identifying sites in order to bring 10,000 extra beds into the health system. Yikes.

Only 60 people for contact tracing. And they had 27 new cases yesterday.

    What a farce!

Are tests really taking 4 to 6 days? if thats true then we are truly ****ed!

I'm sure that is a typo. Possibly 4-6 hours?

Serious question, how do you think that this could be done in reality?

People will be coming from different airports, at different times and on different days.

    It would be impossible.

Yes, in fairness, I know you're absolutely right - it's just sickening to think that upwards of 20,000 will come home after being in such close quarters - a breeding ground for this. Might be the biggest gamble of their lives.

Around 7,000 active personnel won't lock down anything.

This is unlikely and stems from the post earlier in the week that all personal needed to have their kit ready in barracks.

    Stop spreading needless panic

Unknown as of yet but probably for periods of time.

SARS could live between 15 minutes and 3 hours on a steel or plastic surface depending on temperature.

that woman who was on prime time with miriam o'callahan said it could live on a hand rail on a bus for 2 days.

Simply take over Hotels . Im sure they are pretty empty and the Government could rent them off the industry.

Roughly 25% daily increases is what we seem to be looking at (in countries where no restriction measures are in place).

Not at all : scientists reckon that the average infected person might pass it on to two or three people at most (and that's with close contact, not a ten second encounter).

I don't know how you inferred sexual relations from that. And not everyone is a 10 second merchant.

Fever, dry cough and shortness of breath appear to be the main symptoms.

Scary how this disease takes a hold so quickly and silently and then just explodes out of literally nowhere. Spain had it's first known cases of community transmission less than two weeks ago, now theres talk of a national lockdown

Another point to mention specific to the Irish figures

The only place I have seen 2 deaths noted is in this thread. I have done searches and it appears that some reports of the first death were mistakenly assumed to be a second death. Someone in Naas has also been mentioned. This has not been reported. Please bear in mind that, unfortunately, people die every day and in the current climate people can very easily put 2 and 2 together and get 5.

I have said previously there is almost certainly some delay in the release of figures. Please stick to the "official" figures as posting stuff you think you "know" can only cause confusion when most people do rely on official communications, and indeed helps create inaccurate rumours
