Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Could they not run a Luas type system up the center of the N7 to the Red Cow?
The Luas is a light rail system, it is not designed for long distance travel. It already takes close for an hour to get from Saggart to Connoly on the Luas. It would take way too long from Naas.

I can understand members of the public not understanding this, but during recent elections at least two electoral candidates were campaigning claiming to propose running the luas down to Blessington or Naas.

As WhatsGoingOn2 said, it's reasonably clear that the luas is light rail designed for urban areas with only a few mins between stops in reasonably densely populated areas. Imagine being on the luas as it went down the N7 or N81 stretch for 20+ mins.

For me that ruled out my vote immediately if a electoral candidate doesn't have the slightest clue of feasibility for transport concerns.

A proper railway is the only feasible way to run this type of service to either of those locations.

As I keep saying, they should build a DART station with a park and ride capable of holding thousands of vehicles across from Odeon Naas in that abandoned site. Perfectly accessible for all Kill-Naas-Sallins-Johnstown, and would also work for those even further out in Newbridge or whatever. They could also have a lot of different DUBLIN BUS services from this park and ride to different areas of the city, and even different areas of North Kildare. Example, for someone who works in Intel or attends Maynooth and lives in Monread or Kill.

As it stands almost all journeys are conducted using a car in Naas. There are two bus services, 126 and 139, which are ridiculously overpriced and don’t connect with any other transport system.

I don’t care if there’s a feeder bus or a random JJ kavanagh coach going god knows where with a piece of paper on the front of it. A somewhat competent transport system requires buses to have a common livery, common fare, a number, integration with other transport services, and actual bus stops. The 139 doesn’t even have bus stops, doesn’t have LEAP 90 discount, fare capping, isn’t included on the rambler ticket, and still accepts cash. Nobody should find this acceptable when places like Maynooth, Celbridge, Greystones, Blessington, etc etc etc don’t have to deal with these problems.

What a complete fragmented mess Naas is. Anyone who cares for their children in the area (when they go to college) should be campaigning to local TD’s who have done absolutely nothing, Kildare county council, and the NTA. There is huge demand for it, but nobody seems to do anything about it. Demand for buses isn’t just for no reason lower in Naas, it’s hindered because of lack of services, fare expense and complexity, lack of integration, lack of bus stops (you could drive for ten minutes in naas without seeing one), and fragmentation of the system (politicians think JJ kavanagh bus is a success for the area, rather than proper public transport like Dublin bus).

Yeah I think so! My Dad also mentioned a 3 car pile up earlier this afternoon but that should be well cleared now

Traffic has been diabolical in Naas all day, even at 13:00. Took me longer to get from Naas town to Monread today than from UCD to Naas.

That must've been the 3 car pile-up so. The water main burst at 10am so probably affected it too

Left the town at around 16:00, got to Tesco extra at around 17:15 via the Sallins road. Worst traffic I’ve seen since the M7 works.

just on the transport and people talking about the feeder bus. the timetable is on irish rail website. if you look at the pdf for sallins station to dublin timetables it shows the feeder. i wouldnt trust it to go to the station. but its very handy when you get off a train and its just waiting there to bring you into central naas. the guys driving it are always very pleasant and it will drop you exactly where you want to if its on the route.

i love the train. even if its busy, its still only 20-30min sallins to heuston. not exactly central dublin, but its a nice enough walk beside the luas tracks along the museum and the north side (benburb street). which is about another 20 minutes. But at least you will be getting close to the 10,000 steps a day with that walk.

And to mention its usually on time. ive lived in london and there are far more problems with uk trains being late due to signaling failures.

    So big up the train.

Feel free to disagree with me, but if you are going to be negative, please offer something positive as well. tks

Folks. The times for the feeder bus from Naas to Sallins are incorrect on Irish Rail's timetable. On the to Dublin timetable it shows the bus leaving Poplar Square 20 minutes ahead of the train departure time. These times are from the post office and have always been. Irish Rail cocked it up before sending to printers.

So as examples the bus leaves post office at 6.29 for the 6.50 service to Heuston and 6.55 for the 7.08 (GCD) & 7.13 (Heuston).

My wife's mother is currently in naas hospital for the last few days.
Today the nurses were going around telling visitors that the hospital would not be allowing visitors on the premises anymore as a precaution due to the coronavirus.

One shouldn't have to go looking in the small print of pdf timetables (which don't in any case tell you the route of the bus). Also, it's a two way thing,it isn't going to be a whole lot of use coming home in the evening if I can't rely on getting there in the morning. What exactly would the problem be with having designated stops and more information about the service? Those in the know are no doubt happy to have it to themselves.

I find the train service itself perfectly decent, but the parking situation at the station is appalling and a better feeder service would greatly help.

Was getting the bus from Dublin to naas the other night. I have two transport for Ireland apps on my phone, both list different buses. In the end a third magical jj kavanagh bus showed up which wasn’t listed on either app or the real time display.

It’s hard to believe this is only down to incompetence, someone somewhere is actively sabotaging naas public transport.

I'd be very confident in predicting that nobody did

And I'd also be confident that people thinking it's OK to takes videos like this of people without permission, even if it's not technically illegal, is gonna get a right smack for themselves soon enough!

I dont see an issue with it..

It just shows if you are asked to do one thing many people do the complete opposite.

biggest problem for supermarkets yesterday was lack of staff. They had their normal thursday roster, but the was christmas eve like shopping. Considering they had no notice that people would start behaving irrationally, there was nothing they could do.

No major queues today I suspect as additional checkout staff probably added

Telling people to don't panic is the same as telling people to calm down. It has the opposite effect.

I walked down through the town today, keeping my distance. I’d like to keep supporting local business. If PS coffee or Bear Market we’re open I would have bought a coffee to go. I’d be great if they had a hatch to serve out of. I noted that insomnia was open, but decided to boycott them as it’s unfair for small independents to be responsible and the chains to be feckless.

Just wondering if there is any site to know what local business are doing to survive and how I can buy from them.

I know the Kildare brewing company are doing deliveries of their craft brew and I plan to order some of that soon.

    Hi Folks

Potentially about to buy a house in the monread area ( am I mad with the current covid situation?)

I’ve been targeting the monread area since my first viewing in October of last year as I immediately fell in love with the place.

Anyway, just wanted to check to see does anyone know of any pyrite issues in any of the estates around monread? Or perhaps even anyone had a test done and got positive news?

    Thanks a mill in advance

Could be wrong on this, but i believe the pyrite issues occurred in the 2000's during the housing boom. I'm pretty sure most of the houses in the Monread area were all built pre 2000.

Open to correction on that, but haven't hear many issues of that in Naas.

is your query for buying in relation to buying because of the medical situation or the economic situation?

in my opinion, the housing market is at its top. Typically when you see a stock market crash, the housing market usually follows 6-12 months later.

We just dont know yet how the current economic situation will impact real estate prices, its a bit early

If you have mortgage approval and both working and there is no risk of either losing your job, then you should have no issue getting approval again, if you think one could lose a job and it could effect you getting approval, then its something to consider

In terms of the pyrite and dates for the houses in Monread, we moved into Gleann na Riogh in 1996 and Monread was completed by then so its pre 95 at least
