Simon Harris won't lock down Ireland because it will tank the economy - I'm very conflicted on this myself as it would obviously affect my job as company I work with is global.

Luke O'Neill catching up on 2 month old revelations, such as asymptotic transmission and that it appears to be more deadly than the flu.

    uhoh

he'll soon learn that it's actually a dolly mixture of SARS and AIDS

It is not up to Public health doctors to decide on borders and quarrantines, thats a political decision that our political leaders needed to make but didnt.

Can anyone medical (more medical than myself at least) explain to me why the **** wearing face masks do not prevent you picking the virus up. In other words why are they futile if you don't have the infection.

Something about touching your face more?
Surely if you wash hands scrupulously this is irrelevant

I'd love a straight answer to this simple query.

I know this video was already posted but it’s very detailed and tells it like it is.
Talks about cases in Italian hospitals, notably Milan, where they are “seeing an alarming number of cases in the 40 something year olds age group”
    3.28 on.

For anyone wondering who he is:
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Osterholm

That’s some scary **** and kinda makes a mockery of the fact we haven’t imposed closures of schools, pubs, cinemas, gigs, any public gatherings.

Well worth a watch and very informative.

I reckon you'd be safer in a bigger, global company.
Economy shock likely to be sharp but not too prolonged unlike 2008 crisis.
It's the smaller / independent business and self employed who are likely to be hit very hard, depending on area of business.

Basic answer I've heard is the virus is tiny and can still get in under the mask.

    I seriously doubt he's reading.

You would have had time to revise your previous post rather than go again. Less haste, more progress.

Look at Italy dude, we are two weeks behind them and heading that way. We should be taking the Chinese example as yer one on Prime time is saying.

Impressive response in Singapore assuming it is all factual (comments in the thread suggest it is):-

    https://twitter.com/_SJPeace_/status/1237311577122054144?s=19

They currently have 166 cases however, potentially it could be a lot higher without such responses?

According to a guy on the radio:

    Gets in through eyes/nose anyway.

Masks are annoying/uncomfortable.. You’ll fidget with it and allow the virus in anyway.

If someone was presenting symptoms associated with the disease but also others which are not is there any point in that person contacting the HSE?

Also has there been any info on how they intend to keep supermarkets stocked? I was in tesco this evening and it was well shook and I'd say that things are still relatively normal at the moment. I've been reading stuff online about Italian supermarkets being raided etc and I'd expect it to be equally as bad here given the government seem to be waiting for the proverbial to hit the fan.

Basically they don’t form a seal , air and viruses can get in under and around a simple surgical face mask .

Simon Harris made the important point about right measures at the right time. There's no point in announcing all sorts of curfews and lockdowns if people don't believe there's a big enough risk. Many just won't comply. Whereas all evidence this week is that the government is softening people up for stronger measures..

I'd rather the government follow the advice of the professionals employed to look at the total picture and full impact on the country rather than randomers on teh interwebs.

Medical advice is divided. Dr Holohan and PHET’s view has been repeatedly challenged by highly qualified and eminent medical people. Medical advice from eminent people in Italy is much stronger that that of PHET on early action.

Of course your post is carefully worded to avoid that:
    The professionals employed
    The total picture
    Full impact.

Let’s be frank, you just mean the economy. I will take part of your advice. I’m going to ignore randomers like you on the inter webs.

    TUESDAY, MARCH 10, 2020
WATERFORD has its first confirmed case of the Coronavirus. In a letter to staff of the hospital this evening, General Manager Grace Rothwell said that The National Virus Reference Laboratory had informed them this evening that UHW has a confirmed case of COVID-19.

This patient had been an inpatient in Medical 7 Ward (the patient did not meet the case definition at this time). A decision was taken on March 9 to test the patient for COVID-19 and in accordance with protocol was then transferred to an isolation room in the Pine Ward, a ward which was specifically opened to facilitate the isolation and care of patients either suspected or confirmed COVID-19.

There were 10 new cases of the virus in Ireland today.
