European countries should be helping Italy. I know they have to prepare for their own cases but people should not be dying for want of a bed.

    No there should not be.
It might come down to practicalities of it too.

I don't think people are dying in Lombardy for the lack of access to beds in Rome.

What do we expect from these deep cleans, as in do they spray the offices or wipe them down?

My building was evacuated yesterday due to someone being in contact and when we came back in today it didn't look like much had been done. Not a thing had been moved on my desk for example.

    LOL.

    - You're all idiots.
    - Maybe it's you?
    - Hey! No need to be calling people names! It's so unfair.

P.S local media are saying a bunch of reports today are not showing from Lombardy in the released figures for Italy...

2 staff members at Ervia have tested positive

Yeah but according to the cork independent they didn't return to the company after travelling to an affected area, which was very goood thinking on the part of the employees as it stops the spread to their colleagues and their families.

what action do you see the government taking to mitigate the numbers, what should they be doing right now?

They already postponed Saint Patricks day. They didn't even cancel mardi gras in Sydney despite their massive Asian population and travel from China.

Reactive measures when and where they are needed. Not baton down the hatches nationwide for 6 months.

I'm sure a family member would use one of these on a sick person if there was a lack of machine respirators. They sit there all day and night breathing for them if need be.

I don't know what your sentence means because I don't know who claimed they know how many will die. Nobody knows how many will die. They are called projections. If anybody says they know how many people will die then you know for sure they are talking BS. But referencing the projections in a thread like this is not scaremongering and they are not BS figures.

The way some people are responding it's like they think the numbers came from an After Hours re-reg.

They have come from our government and it merits discussion. It's also not just Ireland coming up with these type of projections either.

All schools and universities need to be closed this friday, no ifs, buts or maybes.

Why not from now if it's so urgent? No ifs, buts or maybes remember.

145,000 thousand people died today. 200 or less from Coronavirus.

I know exactly what a projection is, and I think your post is misdirected at me. There's people misunderstanding lthat the worse projected death rate is the number Varadkar said will die.

Surely, the virus isn't serious enough to have the Junior and Leaving Cert exams either postponed or not take place at all this year, which would mean that LC students would have to be at school for another year.

Mightn't be too bad, still a much lower population density than Dub/Bel.

The real concern comes in the nature of Italy's strain (L-type?) and numbers:

    Confirmed 10,000
    Active: 8,500 circa
    Recovered: 724
    Deaths: 630

    Ratio: 724 : 630 (l vs d)

A medic on the TV News was hinting that the information and expectations they were getting earlier from China about the nature of COVID was not clear, honest nor factual. This WuFlu might be a worse beast than anyone expected.

I would hope that those returning from Cheltenham would self isolate for 14 days.

Let's hope those figures don't double every 3 days, we have enough to be worried about.

Multi-state, expert panel level advice, and forecast modelling = nonsense?
    ok...

Do you use this skill removing weeds from the garden (cover the eyes and repeat x3 times: "there are no weeds") Give it a go shure, might work.

How about providing caveats when posting such figures then. Do you know how the modelling works? Is it based on 0 reaction from anybody or any government taking any precaution. They must be because the actual data does not even remotely line up with it.

We know many are already taking precautions and governments are taking big measures when needed so what is the purpose of using those numbers outside of them sounding scary.

The majority of people in here know nothing about these topics so some balance is needed when quoting such numbers.
