China's over 60 population is probably more healthy than Europe.

Italy's death rate is far worse

    Careful now.

168 people did NOT die of Corona (which is an alcoholic beverage)

    They died of novel Coronavirus

It’s hardly novel still, is it?

So what are we thinking for our numbers @ 6pm? I’m thinking 7 new cases.

Deaths up from +97 to +161 today though

Shouldn’t link the new cases to deaths for any given day. There always a lag for deaths. Hopefully the new cases plateaus and falls. Their health infrastructure needs relief badly.

The death toll from an outbreak of coronavirus in Italy has jumped by 168 to 631, an increase of 36%, the Civil Protection Agency said on Tuesday, the largest rise in absolute numbers since the contagion came to light on 21 February, Reuters reports.

The total number of cases in Italy, the European country hardest hit by the virus in Europe, rose to 10,149 from a previous 9,172, an increase of 10.7%.

    Maybe.

But Italians are generally a pretty healthy people. They have a good diet and a good healthcare system.

And they live long lives, longer than any other country in Europe

Could the lower numbers just mean that the system is struggling to carry out testing as the numbers infected increases.

No it should be the opposite.

That's how it tends to be referenced in reports and I think it's part of the name.

I quoted the important part below

Every country’s epidemic trajectory (except SK) is on track to become Italy epidemic level within a matter of 1-2 weeks at this current pace

I'd say the change in tone from the government is a result of more people presenting with symptoms and one eye on Italy. Tonight we'll probably see another few cases, more than likely under double figures but the trend is obvious that there's going to be more and more tests requested and as a result more cases, hence the messaging of slowly winding things down in terms of closures etc.

well, now its SARS-CoV-2, but some people don't like calling it that...

Germany so far has 1317 cases.
    So far 2 deaths.
    Only 9 critical cases.

    Major contrast with Italy.

Germany has a functioning well resourced health system.
    Italy not so much.
    Ireland Not at all.
