I wonder why Cork Airport was not an option.

The aircraft returned to Shannon around 18:00 (with or without passengers?).
Ryanair flight FR-4776 from Manchester to Shannon has been forced to divert to Belfast International Airport as winds at Shannon were reported to be outside safety limits. Winds at the airport were gusting to 54 knots (100 km/h) in the past hour. (Clare Herald)

Holiday jet diverts to Shannon with ill passenger (Clare Herald)

A transatlantic jet diverted to Shannon Airport this (Tuesday) afternoon after the crew declared a medical emergency.

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight 129 was travelling from Amsterdam in The Netherlands to the Dutch Caribbean island of Curaçao at the time.

The Boeing 747-400 Jumbo Jet was about 220 kilometres south of Waterford and around 320 kilometres from Shannon Airport when the crew declared a medical emergency at around 12.30pm today.

The flight was cleared to turn and begin routing towards Shannon before then being rerouted away from the Irish coast again for a time while the flight crew dumped aviation fuel over the ocean.

Have you ever seen the orientation of the runway in Cork? Had its own issues.

The UK Airport Provisional Statistics for January are out.

Drop of -7.5%, Brexit uncertainties to be followed by the Corona virus. :(

Unlikely to be any growth this year i would presume. Demand for air travel has gone right down due to COVID19

An excuse? It's a fact unfortunately.

Stupid comment, airport would have grown this year if it wasn't for the outbreak, some good routes acquired.

    Also, 737 max.

25-30 no shows yesterday and today for EI flights to LHR. Unfortunately this is going to decimate the industry.

Now from Friday onwards no EI flights to JFK and BOS. That also cans UA daily service to EWR due to start in 2 weeks time. It’s a hammer blow to Aer Lingus who are carrying thousands across the Atlantic daily from Dublin and Shannon. Awful news for Shannon.

Update: Apparently Schengen only - clarified by US Department of Homeland Security. Presumably Ireland unaffected.

Flights from SNN and DUB are ok. Theyll still operate.

EI111 seems heavily delayed today though.

Omni gone as of this morning for at least 3 weeks, moving it to Bulgaria. The flight they temporarily moved to Germany a few years ago never came back.
Disaster for the airport, especially the retail duty free shop.
