A report trying to predict the progression of the virus in Europe and when it will max out healthcare systems: https://www.macrovoices.com/guest-content/list-guest-publications/3551-a-real-macroeconomic-plague-march-2020/file

(It is part of an investment newsletter but still relevant to everyone)

The chart on number of beds available for critical care patients might explain why Germany seems to be doing better (and Ireland doesn’t look good on that chart :-/).

That's a lot to read over, for tomorrow. Thanks.

Scary stuff folks, this seems like the calm before the storm.

Listen to this woman. Classic Ireland, waiting to see what the UK does and then following suit.

Cheltenham starts tomorrow and there is a confirmed case there....
That's my NAP on the 10/1 gone. Really don't want this jumping from jockey, to horse for mutation, then back to another jockey who wins.

Then everyone wants to rub him (not in a happytime way) for good luck, and a load of broadcasters put cat (furry) microphones into his face for illegible out of breath commentry about the whipping of his horse.

    Cos he's better. At everything.

In fairness to Harris, he has Crohn's disease, which makes him highly vulnerable. I know this from my brother in law and the advice he has received.

Thats a good point. Not a fan of Harris as a minister but I would certainly not criticise him for protecting himself here. He has a young family.

The safest place to be in the world is China. Who would have thought we would have been saying that a month ago?

Bruce Aylward said it a month ago, if he had to get it he'd rather be treated in China.

Why us it Coveney and not Harris on TV tonight!

Because amongst all politicans across all parties he probably is the one who looks calm under whatever circumstances.

Huge Selfie deaths since Smartphones came out, but we don't fear them as much as this virus.

I don't fear my own lack of stupidity.

I actually don't fear for myself or my wife at all as regards the virus.

We do however have no less than 7 older or otherwise vulnerable relatives between us and I would be concerned at the mental impact, especially on my wife, of losing them all effectively at once.

From that chart Italy has roughly twice as many critical care hospital beds per '000 population as Ireland.

You know, after tonight what I got pilloried for saying might happen almost a week ago is beginning to look like an optimistic scenario.

Still now some action is happening and no matter what that’ll help. I’m with the Prof though, the quicker and more severe the restrictions the better for us all
And the more lives will be saved.

True, hasn’t really moved south, fairly reassuring no?

Even though it moved so quick and so far from China and then it didn’t move too much from northern Italy.

Give it another 7-10 days. People in the North got wind of the lockdown before it was announced and a load headed south to avoid it. Hence the countrywide lockdown.

Carmen Regan on Claire Byrne is very impressive. Shes not impressed at all with the government and telling Simon Coveney so in no uncertain terms.

Advising people not to travel to certain areas and banning them from travelling to certain areas are completely different things. Ban flights from Italy, let people take the car or boat, will cut figures considerably.

Coveney did well to stay calm after the doctor said her piece. This government is a shambles and they’re literally going to kill tens of thousands down to this incompetence.

Doc with glasses is very sceptical at the idea the virus could infect 50%+

Blonde lady disagrees with him....I guess we'll know within 1-2 weeks where this is heading

Doc with glasses is a Virologist and Director of the NVRL. Very credible, worked with him for years. Blonde lady is an Obstetrician. He should be more knowledgeable!

Shirley some builders masks with filter canisters would work okay ?/

    https://www.safetycare.ie/Masks/Protector-Sari-Full-Face-Mask

Yes those will work, but you don't need to go that expensive. Search this thread for screwfix to see something I posted earlier. A P3 canister mask will filter 99.95% of particles and droplets smaller than 0.5 microns. In other words, they will do the job. These people might have some:

I like that woman, she has b***s.

Very easy to say 'shut down everything' but that would wreak havoc on the country and the economy and there is simply not enough evidence Ireland is under that level of threat

Bologna is Bologna.....we just don't know if that will be replicated anywhere else in Europe

Cheltenham going ahead is disgraceful tbh
Doubt it will escape all week and if not called off tomorrow will most likely finish before Friday

She destroyed him. We can choose to be Taiwan or Italy and these dopes are going to choose Italy.

She's absolutely right. On current trends we will be as bad as Italy in about 8 weeks time.

    Coveney's expert is clueless.

I thought so. He sounded very knowledgeable whereas she sounded like a total alarmist.

He is more knowledgeable but she is more pissed off and better with public communication than him. Actually a smart mix by RTE for the panel.
