Was there actually any testing done over the weekend?

i suspect the lab in UCD only had a skeleton crew and not all tests where done. Hence the tone of Harris this morning.
They will do all weekend tests today and we might get a double digit increase.

They do run at the weekend, especially with this more people will be recruited, But the machines they have to do this test re limited and the test itself takes like 8/10 hours (not sure exact time)

It could also be managing expectations after that alarming headline over the weekend.

No this is the weekend one and will only cater results up to 12pm today. It’ll be back to around 9pm tomorrow.

Soap and warm water is just as effective.

Not all of us have cars with running hot water unfortunately. Or travel on buses or trains that are equipped with the same.

Viruses don't know what a border is. Otherwise the UK / Switzerland etc would be virus free.

West Palm Beach, Florida — Irish eyes at the U.S. Capitol will not smile on President Trump on St. Patrick's Day.

Mr Trump is skipping an annual bipartisan luncheon with House and Senate lawmakers celebrating the ties that bind the U.S. and Ireland, a White House spokesman said.

Trump blamed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pointing to the impeachment inquiry launched by the Democrat-led House last year.....

Mr. Trump instead will celebrate with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the White House on Thursday — five days before St. Patrick's Day. Deere said the relationship between the U.S. and Ireland "has never been stronger."

From a broadcasting and communication perspective it makes sense. 8.30 is an odd time.

No it isn’t. It’s only for weekend results. It’ll be back to 9 tomorrow night.

There is a "They", they're the EU.

Simon Harris has said it is not possible to close borders due to the free travel area within the Union.

As coordinated a response as there is to the migrant crisis.

Front-line countries like Italy flounder. Germany, the effective leader of the EU, only makes the situation worse. Individual leaders make noises, but don't do anything effective. Indecision prevails. The overwhelmed front line countries' inability to cope eventually negatively affects the rest of the block.

I really hope not. I "generally" defend the HSE from a lot of the unfounded and incorrect allegations against them on here. BUT if they say 1 on Saturday, 2 on Sunday and then LOTS on Monday, it will make it seem like they have been asleep all weekend and only increase the criticism. This would be a massive own-goal if this happens.

I've been critical of them, especially around the volume of testing we'd done up until recently.
I also reacted with dismay over the parade decision or lack there of.

But I'm acutely aware that we're going to have to put our faith in them completely over the coming months.
I wish they're make that easier for me.

i suspect that headline is an idiot journo misreading the 50% of cases in 3 weeks modelling theory from the brits.

Ive seen a few people say 50% of all people will get it. so 1.9m would be half our population.

The prediction however is 50% of cases will be over 3 weeks.

They released updated numbers over the weekend so it's not the weekend results

I reckon today's numbers could be big judging from the tone of Simon Harris earlier.

Yup. The fact that very little cases got reported over the weekend is not being talked about enough. Were the labs open? Were the reports of calls not been answered true? With something like this 2 days is an age. Expecting a dozen or more confirmed cases today.

Side note but .....“grandparents day”!! Did you ever hear such bo11ocks in your life? As if people aren’t busy enough these days without introducing crap like that. Also must be a real punch in the face for the kids whose grandparents have died.

Another case of community transmission, a woman in the east of Ireland, was also confirmed today.

Now that all the people "in the know" have done their shopping Joe public can be informed of his imminent demise. :(

Harris is talking out his hoop.

It is perfectly legal to close the borders temporarily. It is up to each individual member state and cannot be vetoed.

10 days since our first confirmed case and we have 0 recovered cases.

Bear in mind these people were infected days before they were even tested.

Why no recovered cases yet? What is the criteria for recovery, is it a couple of negative tests?
