I'm a dairy farmer, if it gets very bad is there a chance our export markets will shut down or collections of milk will cease if your in a high risk zone

Quick Question: Did Fergal Bowers say on the radio this morning that there have been 1,000 tests performed since last weekend?

Asking only because the person that knows everything is telling me this and I'm having a hard time believing them.

I heard that on the news last night. I’ll be updating the tested list after the official announcement tomorrow evening. I’ll also include an average tests per day based on 7 day week.

This is a very good explanation on how viruses spread through exponential growth and how reducing the probability of spread is important in reducing the overall numbers infected.

Great link. Some things which are not immediately obvious when dealing with this and explained in video.

number of reported cases does not equal number of true cases
Due to exponential growth number majority of people recently infected (little no symptoms)

Social isolation best if you can afford it I fear. Big tech companies aren't taking any chances.

At this point nobody knows. In a worst case situation anything could happen. Let`s hope that it doesn't get to that stage.

The expert on Morning Ireland this morning was saying it'll be middle of June or July when it's at it's worst, never mind start slowing.
    One of the experts.

RTE driving me a bit nuts to be honest - trying to force political decisions, rather than medical decisions, on the state. Totally irresponsible this morning letting an economist hype what needs to happen regarding public health recommendations. Totally undermining the public health experts that are advising the state.

Wate of time listening to RTE anyway, I haven't paid the license in years

We’ve made the decision NOT to send my dad into respite this Friday. We are worried about him possibly catching it in a community hospital environment or even passing it on so the stress levels wouldn’t subside anyway.

Family rallying around so I’ll get a couple of days off to chill.

    I think that’s a really good idea

Hard to believe that the info below was last Tuesday evening but is buried in the middle of thread 3 now. Posting again here so I can find it easier tomorrow.

Regarding South Korea testing so much, with people with a negative test, there's always a possibility of still catching it?

Good article here. Chinese researchers have found that the virus isn’t as effective in warmer weather, pointing to the low number of cases in south east Asia.

It seems a very low number. The students and teachers from Scoil Chaitriona alone should account for almost half of that number.

Anyone else think it was totally irresponsible of that weekend headline that said 1.9 million of us could catch the virus?

Considering the country of origin with 1.4billion inhabitants had 100,000 cases, why would do a small country in comparison have nearly 20 times the number of cases?

    Media gonna hype I suppose.

Not bad, their testing capacity is higher than I thought it would be.

I've phoned in sick today as I have a cold. Have no fever so pretty sure it's just a chesty cold. Don't feel great though. Was hoping the manager would tell me they would support sick pay and tell me to take the week off even though the company doesn't normally. There are signs up to stay away from the site if sick (from main site owner).

Tomorrow I will go back in as otherwise I will use up all my annual leave on sick days.

The company sent someone home last week with no symptoms on full pay because he had been in Spain which makes sense but should also make sense to encourage symptomatic people to stay away also.

Most are in work I thought? I know they tested their work from home capabilities by taking a day but I didn't think any were using them for everyone yet.

More than likely the fed will cut rates again by Friday, but I think they are doing it too quickly.
On another note the last week has seen a rise in Chinese buying up retail premises across Europe what are they up too

Yep, we have been due for a recession in a while and this virus might be the trigger.

They are trying to preemptively avoid it by cutting rates now, but if/when that recession starts they’ll have fired all their bullets already when facing the bear they were trying to scare away with their preemptive shots.

I don’t want to go too much into economics and obviously at the moment the priority is the health crisis, but it might have a long lasting financial impact on many people which hasn’t been grasped yet.

Now all we need to do is move Ireland to Asia and we're sorted.
