A few queries I have that some people with expertise may be able to answer.
How many test per day could be carried out I know it is a fairly complex process.
Secondly will we reach a stage where people won't be tested just treat symptoms as they arise. As far as I know treatment doesn't target the actual virus just deals with the potentially serious side effects, pneumonia etc
So will testing for covid be necessary.

We are currently in the feed people bullsh*t Containment stage , but I would of thought regardless of stage we will always be testing. This can help you change strategy’s as required and I haven’t seen any country being held up as a good example to follow, stopping the testing. It can also signal when cases start leveling off or lowering.

Extracting p*ss from Tom cats was outlawed years ago.

In my experience, they give of it freely, in quantity, no need to extract it.

If they are keeping something from us (which I doubt) we have to believe there is a good reason for it.

The good reason may be good to them. Transparency is the only way to maintain trust and social cohesion on dealing with it.

I am a close contact of someone who was told to self isolate because they were a close contact of a suspected case awaiting a test result. That result, which was thankfully negative, took 48 hours to be released.

What was the HSE guy saying at the press conference the other day then that it takes a few hours, swab in by 10am results at lunchtime, swabs in by lunch time results by tea time is what he said?

This is what happens when you have a backlog. This is why the testing criteria is specific. We do not have a vast capacity for testing like other countries.

We can only test those from infected regions with symptoms and now those who have had contact with an infected person.

The HSE are busy trying to contact everyone that has come into contact with the 19 cases so far. That must be hundreds of people.
Testing them is a priority. We must get through all contacts before we can test anyone else who thinks they have it.

There's been a few people here who knows a guy who knows a guy who has a sore throat and can't get tested. Apologies, you're at the back of the line because there's people that have come into contact with people that are actually infected and they will and should be seen before you.

Round them up and send them to Dublin.

A Mongolian herder from the southwestern province of Bayankhongor on Monday donated 10 sheep to the National Center for Communicable Disease of Mongolia to support the organization's anti-virus efforts.

    They aren't mine. :)

I’d say a lot more than 21 people have it here. But for most people it could be as mild as a cough or a slight flu. These people won’t be rushing to get tested as they’ll assume it’s just a bit of a cough or a bit of flu.

When people watch the news, read this thread etc, they are expecting a killer disease. They’re expecting to be knocked for six and need hospital treatment.

The reality is, most of us that get it will be mildly sick. Probably mild enough that we won’t even realise we have it.

Easy for you to say from the safety of your own home. How would you like it if you were going into hospital for a 12 hour shift being exposed to huge amounts of the virus. Then to be told that all leave is cancelled. You tell them to just suck it up? Disgusting attitude.

This may be the worst crisis this country has ever faced.

    Grow up.

    Cut the drama.

People in the HSE should just do what they are told and work where they are told to work.

If they can not do this Government should look into emergency legislation to sack workers who will not play ball and replace them with those who will.

I was thinking of taking the next 2 weeks off work, I'm on thin ice as it is, I can only imagine the conversation with my boss...

So you think that the solution to this is to sack the people who actually have the experience and replace them with lads on the dole? I don't understand your thinking here. Literally, nobody who does my job could be replaced by anybody without experience in hospital pharmacy. As I've said many times before, patient safety is always at the forefront of my practice. Hypothetically, overworking front line staff will lead to sick leave and absenteeism. Would you rather be treated by a score at the back end of of 72 hour shift or one who has had an adequate amount of rest?

When mistakes happen in the healthcare. You can end up in a coroner's court leading to been struck off/huge compensation claims. It's not a case of been mollycoddled.

That's an issue successive Irish governments have refused to deal with. I know a gynecologist who would have loved to get back into obstetrics, but hasn't, due to the insane legal system in this backward country and the insurance costs that derive from it.

I am suggesting workers do what there are told during this emergency.
If they don't like working in that sector we are in a free market and all that.

According to BNO on Twitter Lombardy has 100 deaths alone. They are still waiting on official numbers

What's up with the popping up now and again and throwing unsubstantiated numbers out there.

Back it up with evidence ffs.

Yeah crazy talk that would be like letting flights come in from infected regions without any checks at the Airports.

No that be like the HSE if they were in control of flights (which they are not) knowing let an infected person leave

Speculation based on nothing but a hunch and a number plucked out of nowhere is totally unhelpful.

    Career in tabloid journalism perhaps?

    Yeah, that's scary.

Might also be indicative of how the system is failing there.
