Sex between consenting adults is healthy. Drugs are dodgy, but we don't see too much of a mainstream push for people to see drugs as a "positive". Rock and roll is music and the vast bulk of the hedonism involved is a fantasy for the working Joe and Josephine. Most of the rock and roll hedonists that aren't in their twenties are as fit as a butcher's dog and almost none are close to obese. put it another way; who is more likely to live and live fit and well into their old age? Someone who emulated Mick Jagger, or someone who emulated Lizzo?

I genuinely think the answer to that question is Lizzo.

Don't hold her up as a positive role model for bodyshape and health for a start.

I see her more as a role model that a female singer can find fame, success and acclaim without being a female Hercules. She didn't achieve mainstream success until the age of 31. Think of the uphill struggle she's faced as a plus size woman of colour. It's testament to her spirit and musical ability. I guess some can only see her body though. Says everything you need to know about them.

Educate people that it's not healthy to be that size.

That education already exists? And everyone already knows that.

In a celebrity culture that venerates size zero models and wildly unrealistic body types in film and music, one obese woman is hardly going to change an entire culture.

Nobody is going to end up thinking obesity is a great lifestyle choice. But it might make some bigger girls feel less alone in the world.

This is pretty much what it's about alright..

(I think..I don't know what this thread is about..I've never heard of this woman..I just spend too much time on boards..)

The thread is about "body positivity".

Nothing to do with being a woman, nothing to do with colour, nothing to do with life challenges.

The thread is about Lizzo and body positivity. That’s why it’s the thread title.

Other ways of viewing Lizzo as a role model are relevant.

What I'm saying is that she had the cards stacked against her when she tried to get into an industry that glorifies appearances and whiteness. She's overcome that hurdle and yet people here do nothing but make degrading have at her about her appearance

And this is a perfect example of how skewed society's perception of health and fitness is. I'm no particular fan of him as an individual, but Jagger in his 70's is a healthier and fitter individual than Lizzo is in her early 30's. I can't begin to imagine what Lizzo will be like in her 70's. Her knees alone will almost certainly be shot long before that.

Many worry about Artificial Intelligence. I worry far more about Organic Idiocy.

Yeah we can all see what you are saying. You are attempting to direct the thread to suit your angle.

People are very clearly opposed to her promoting "body positivity" while being far from healthy. Promoting morbidly obese rolemodels is not a good idea.

This has nothing to do with all that other crap you are spouting.

"Whiteness"? Her industry has way above background demographic percentages for Black artists and performers.

So should she perform wrapped up in bubble wrap to avoid us having to look at her? You seem desperate for her to be dismissed and rejected. Did some curvy girl tell you to feck off in the pub once and this is your way of getting even? Sad.

I believe your bias is limiting your view. Ask any doctor what’s more dangerous; a lifestyle of late nights taking cocaine/ heroin/ booze regularly or being overweight. I think most doctors would say that while both or dangerous, drugs are far more dangerous.

Your question was about emulating someone like Jagger or someone like Lizzo. A huge number of Jagger’s contemporaries died well before their time due to alcohol and drug abuse. That’s why we have the 27 Club.

Insulting other people is a clear indication that you've lost the argument.

Yeah and they're frequently dismissed, underpaid, discriminated against and plagiarized. That's my point

There's nothing to be positive about with her body. She should be promoting a message that her look is unhealthy and the result of being lazy which now means she is likely to suffer many lifestyle induced illnesses such as diabetes. Body positivity would be trying to lose her flab and promoting a healthy reformed lifestyle.

Youre here making fun of a curvy woman and I'm the one being insulting? It's time to put away the whiskey, brother

Fat women? Already trying to play down morbid obesity, nice try.

And no, they shouldn't hate themselves, just their terrible choices which lead to being morbidly obese.

I guess we should shun every woman who doesn't look like Margot Robbie. I wonder what state many of lizzos detractors are in.

In the past certainly, but it wasn't just Black people, Elvis, the Beatles and many others got shafted by record deals and companies. Today? Now I know this doesn't gel well with the whole intersectional victimhood politics nonsense, but about the most powerful and wealthiest person in the music biz, as named by Forbes magazine is Beyonce an African American woman. She's no anorexic either.

"Curvy"? You have got to be kidding me? Yet again a perfect example of scarily skewed perceptions.

That's discrimination against circus workers if we apply your logic.

She's mad into body positivity. Unless you're slim/skinny.

"He look like he could gain a little weight.
Lick the icing off, put the rest in your face.
Slow songs, they for skinny hoes
Can't move all of this here to one of those.
    I'm a thick bitch, I need tempo. "

But don't tear others down etc etc...

Honestly, who are you to judge her? And say she should hate her life choices? Yes, she’s obese. She’s also enormously talented, hardworking and successful. At a guess a lot more so than you are.

Alright then Yeats, what will you call her?

    She's clinically morbidly obese.

That's the correct term if you don't dress it up with PC nonsense like "curvy" or "fuller-figured".
