no macroeconomics or climate change qualifications?

    ok, fair enough.

I guess we'll all accept that one can post in the thread without them and not persevere in using these as one-line dismissals.

keep asking the other thing. good typing practice.

Ah but....such things are the unnecessary by-products of a consumerist capatalist society...are'nt they ?.....

Meanwhile, over in Bruxelles the roadshow rolls onwards...

Nothing will ever be enough for some people,or at least those supplying this girl's scripts.....;)

The activist said that despite "disregarding" science, the EU was hoping its plan "will somehow solve the biggest crisis humanity has ever faced".

"This must come to an end," she said.

Indeed my dear,it really must. :o

Fierce quite in here since a virus stole Gretas limelight. There was an apparition of her in Bristol the other day wearing two coats preaching about global warming and her sponsors in mass media barely touched the story. She looks fairly ill these days, emaciated. I sincerely hope she can recover from being a headline act and go on to lead a normal life as the media move on to the next fear fest and she slips back into obscurity.

Have all the doomsday merchants flocked off to corona virus? Probably busy on a chemist crawl panic buying. Noticed a long time ago that those with climate OCD also tend to be severe hypochondriacs.

The climate Goblin Gretta is getting a break, and the corona has elevated to demon like status.

I see we're still going with the insult Gretta tactic. I'd love to see a good psychological analysis of the need people have to personally attack her. What drives it? Why does she upset so many? Is it guilt? Fear maybe? A feeling of helplessness that they are reminded of when they see her? If it was just a disagreement on her beliefs that could be done with scientific sources and argument. I mean, even if all the climate change science turns out to be wrong, what's the worst thing that could happen? The planet is better off. Oh no. I'll continue to support her and her message. She's doing good and inspiring young people to follow suit.

Inspired or brainwashed? Greta is the same as anyone in the public eye, once someone is in the public eye they can expect to be criticised. The same fawning cult devotees who whinge and moan about their guru getting "personally attacked" would turn in a nanosecond and do just that to anyone not drinking their fear infused kool aid. Total hypocrites.

It got old because it's the same arguments with the same posters going round and round and round to no effect. Greta is still doing her thing though, fair play to her, unfortunately a lot more would be required at Government level and individual level to clean up our act on the planet.

One might question how much of this remains 'Her' thing any longer.

It got old because it fell out of the news cycle. Greta is yesterday's news, we are all supposed to be panicking about chinese bat flu now. Monotone Greta only appeals to urban middle class do gooders looking for something to fill the vacuum that religion left in their lives, saviour seekers. No mass appeal whatsoever. When the climate change fear mongering gets back into gear again I doubt Greta will be used as its mascot, there will be a new gimmick.

That's the new topic that mass media is using to generate copious amounts of raw fear. As I said automaton Greta has no appeal beyond the saviour seeking urban middle class, her wooden finger wagging demeanour irritates most people. It's back to the drawing board for the Club of Rome, Eu technocrats etc to come up with a new gimmick for the next round of climate change Armageddon fear porn. Greta will of course keep on working for globalism but she will never be a headline act again.

You don't get it do you. Greta has been replaced. Its Chinese bat flu now.. When climate change is the main engine for fear generation in the media again there will be a new angle and a new mascot, how often do you hear about Al Gore now? The devotees will of course be furnished with news here and there as the limelight fades away but their guru will never be a main focus for the media again. BBC news was awash with Greta, she was on it more than Kim Jong Un is featured on north Korean tv, even they have moved on.

It's called Coronavirus, and I never experienced the coverage of Greta you seem to have. Not everyone stays famous forever either, you know.

Here’s what I do get. Greta is still generating headlines for her activism. Ample headlines across all sorts of media this very week. Someone is in denial here, and it’s not me.

Yes anyone who disagrees with the disciples is to be ridiculed or told to leave :-)

Claiming that someone who’s in the headlines this very week isn’t in the headlines anymore is certainly deserving of some ridicule.

It's accurate to say she is waaay down in news, I did see her once I think on Euronews but that is vs the total saturation by Coorona.
Look never mind, her histrionics are difficult to watch but at the end of the day she is a young, challenged kid. Wouldn't wish any ill on the kid, but I'd be changing the channel rather than listening to another ageist lecture.

It’s actually not. If she’s giving a keynote at a big climate conference, she obviously gets a higher profile, but she’s continuing to get headlines for her response to policy decisions she’s nowhere near.

I take it referring to Coronavirus as "Chinese bat flu" implies its all a liberal conspiracy like climate change in the brains of the Mensa members that populate these threads?

I've seen hours of Corona, A very short Euronews thing with Greta one morning.
    It's correct.

I didn’t see the Coronavirus getting a giant portrait today?

Kim Jong Un must be well jealous of that . The Marxist ecohipsters in that part of Yorkshire are keen to blame all the recent flooding on catastrophic climate armageddon, never mind the fact that has been serious lack of waterways maintenance there over the decades. The second article you had to go digging on Google for is comedy gold.

Greta/her handlers are pretty bothered that Chinese bat flu is stealing the limelight from catastrophic climate Armageddon. Not the scariest show own the road anymore.

No digging required - as I say - she’s still making headlines on a weekly basis.

Funny how people believe scientists when it comes to the virus but not when it comes to climate change. Maybe the virus is just some Marxist ploy.

Don't be so sure. Are people acting according to the science or instint? If you asked people what the scientists say about the virus could they tell you? Do the people read the medical reports or is their source of information & misinformation a media driven event? In relation to the virus has Dettol become the equivalent of having the miraculous medal in the car?

    https://twitter.com/ThierryJFT/status/1236203007768961025

In relation to the virus and climate science people instinctively know which is the real threat, so people are reacting by hoarding, being hygienic and restricting their movements (quarantines happened long before the scientific era). Compare their actions to climate science: always the dire predictions of worldwide doom and catastrophe, but never the actualisation of such.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

Are the PR people or Greta making the headlines?

But now to you. I have hesitated for a long time, talked to myself, and now I’m sitting here and I can’t help it. I must tell you that you are getting on my nerves quite a bit in the meantime. There is hardly a week in which you do not appear somewhere and reproach someone with a morally angry face. This week it was Ursula von der Leyen and the EU Commission’s turn. So it is getting harder and harder for me to take you and your movement “Fridays for Future” seriously.
The world climate is not being saved in Germany or Sweden. We are insignificant

I’m sure you’re a nice girl and you’ve certainly got your heart in the right place. But I can’t judge at all whether all the hype around you is not just a brilliant production of quite clever PR managers who earn a lot of money with you and the “Greta brand”.

Dear Greta, I don’t think anyone stole your childhood from you. Like your whole generation in the wealthy countries, you had the best childhood in living memory. There was never before so much freedom and prosperity as for you. In addition, your generation, and especially your Fridays for Future friends from the middle and upper classes, contribute significantly to the misery you so loudly denounced. You jet to Burning Man in Nevada, do internships in Singapore and Johannesburg, and when a star DJ hangs up in Madrid, you just fly there for an evening. No youth has ever been so globalized before.

By the way, have you read what James Lovelock, one of the most important pioneers of the environmental movement, says about Fridays-for-Future? “They’re just students who have too much time on their hands and go out in the streets to raise an issue.” I wouldn’t be so hard on you. Your cause is my cause too. But I find you too indifferent, too reproachful, too crude in your reasoning.

Why don’t you, Greta, go where it really stinks? For example to Belchatow in Poland, to the largest lignite power plant in the world? It produces more greenhouse gases than Slovakia or Ireland. Go to Brazil, Russia, China or India! The world climate is not being saved in Germany or Sweden. We are basically completely insignificant.

As always follow the money Greta is just the sock puppet, and there is a lot of it at stake.

Factbox: What is von der Leyen's 'European Green Deal'?
    GREEN INVESTMENT

The EIB, the EU’s lending arm, decided on Nov. 15 to cease funding fossil fuel projects at the end of 2021 in line with von der Leyen’s goals for it to be “Europe’s climate bank”.

She wants the EIB to dedicate half its financing to climate investment by 2025. She also plans to fund parts of the European Green Deal policies with a “Sustainable Europe Investment Plan”, with one trillion euros in investment over the coming decade.

    REVAMPED FARMING AND BIODIVERSITY

Von der Leyen also promised to refresh farming with policies such as the “Farm to Fork Strategy”, designed to help farmers produce food in more sustainable ways.

The Green Deal will also include a biodiversity strategy for the coming 10 years, with the EU aiming for a lead role at the United Nations’ biodiversity summit in 2020.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.
