Singapore seems to be able to keep a lid on the virus, no massive jumps like European countries so far and no deaths.

As of 4 March, there were a total of 112 confirmed cases with 79 since discharged. There were 12 un-traced cases out of 112, for which contact tracing is ongoing. 23 Jan was first detected case.

I saw that one....didnt give any update on numbers tested so I thought there would be another later.

They will only be updating numbers tested on a weekly basis....will have to wait until next Tuesday for that.

Cancelling flights from Italy or anywhere is a fallacy. If they really want to come, they will come.

People in Northern Italy can easily fly out of Nice, Zurich, Bern, Innsbruck, Munich, Ljubjana, Zagreb
Or they can simply fly via another European city.

And we don't have the capability to check where they've been. We have biometric passports FFS. Have you not seen the borne identity. Jason found it very hard not to be tracked!

Realistically who in the right mind would do that? It's too much hassle. Airports bring out the worst in people sometimes. It's ridiculous and daft to fly eg from Italy to Germany or France or London and onwards to Dublin. It's absolutely ridiculous and no one in the right mind would do that.

I think history will show that China were very professional in containing this novel corona virus.
There is a lot of anti-China rhetoric about but it is an amazing country run by some very smart people.

    What a joke.

They started the entire thing by allowing a live animal market in the middle of a bustling city, and then their citizens travelled all over the world, spreading it and causing people to due. If it wasn't for their selfishness and lax attitude to hygiene, none of this would have happened.

Smart people my hole. I hope they'll be heavily sanctioned for this.

They also arrested people at the start for talking about it.

we know who goes to Italy in hols the most and who splashes the cash, it must be like a creche down there in Italy considering how disease spreads

I am sick and tired of being told consistently that there is nothing that we can do about Corona virus.

    There must be something.

Cancel those flights from Northern italy to start with

No one is saying that. I think the response from government, not just ours, has been far from perfect, but we need individual responses too.

Ultimately that is what it comes down to, behaviour in the community. Which should be guided by advice from leaders at all levels.

We would look a bit imbecilic to say the least to be holding large gatherings and parades on March 17th with the rest of the world trying to control what will have escalated way beyond where we are now.

Exactly, which played an enormous part in the spread. If they hadn't been so selfish, it might have been a moderately bad virus contained within China.

This is absolutely China's fault and all the PC nonsense spouters need to have some sense knocked into them.

St Patrick's Day going ahead would be insane.

We could beat China's record of 14,000 infected in a day if it goes ahead,

No different to a Friday night in temple bar or harcourt st.

Don’t see any calls for them to be cancelled.

Nonsense. People will often pick the cheapest flights.
I often fly into Munich or Milan when I am going skiing in Austria or Switzerland.
It's often cheaper with more options and I love driving into the Alps.

From RTE Feed @18.48 today. Apparently she was was on 6.1 talking about it.

Dr Nuala O'Connor, the Irish College of General Practitioners Lead Advisor on Covid-19, has said the risk of contracting coronavirus in Ireland remains "very low."

And currently she's right as only 2 people are infected....but if that number increase s exponentially like in other countries that won't be true any more

Italy is considering to put more towns in northern Italy on lockdown due to coronavirus

Whole of Italy will be self isolating at this rate

So restricting flights from areas is not going to reduce the risk? Less people here will not reduce the risk because all of them will drive.

    That makes no logical sense.

Very different. It's about the collection of people from very different areas, in such large numbers.

Do you fancy the job of contact tracing with a paddy's day outbreak over one in a pub?

This makes for depressing reading if this is what it takes to control the virus in China:

    https://www.mayonews.ie/news/35030-westport-man-in-wuhan-has-no-regrets-about-not-returning-to-ireland

Locked up inside his apartment complex for 40 days!!!!

Does anyone understand that if you try to reduce a risk that doesn't mean you have to eliminate it totally.

The argument seems to be shut down everthing or take no precautions at all. You can't postpone anything because some people will still come. So let's do nothing.
