Thialand has been at 42 cases for a week or two now. They appear to be able to keep it in check. Italy is really surprising me. It's just a machine at spreading this.

Virus not spreading in Tropical climate hopefully.

No need to cancel anything, this is being blown out of all proportion, its a glorified flu virus and this thread is full of absolute nutters

Surrounded by morons with this mentality. You do realise that for many of us with chronic health conditions, even 'normal' flu can make us really sick or kill us? I'm super diligent about handwashing and hygiene at all times, and now we have this virus which is more deadly than normal flu, and still all these arrogant people keep spouting about how it's 'glorified flu'?

I have to attend hospital and the GP on a regular basis because of my health condition. My anxiety is through the roof now because every time I go in, there are people coughing and spluttering, infected with God knows what.

But shure, as long as you're grand, like.

I have lived with the mistaken impression that the first responsibility of government in a democratic society was to protect and safeguard the lives of its citizens.

That HSE news conference was a disgrace.

But I suppose it is nice to know what the governments and HSE's real priorities are.

    - Business is more important than citizens lives.

    - Cattle health is more important than citizens lives.

    - Older people - f*uck em

    A sad day.

Sad but true. Silver linings though .....
    1. The festival costs less than €2 million and is directly responsible for generating revenue of €73 million in foreign tourist spending (over €50 million in Dublin alone)
    2. Serious savings on old people, With 75pc of nursing homes in the private sector, their fees can be eye-watering, climbing to €6,000 or more per month, especially in Dublin.
    3. In 2017, Ireland exported an estimated 537 thousand tonnes of beef worth approximately €1.85 billion.
    4. In 2017, 189,000 cattle were exported live from Ireland worth approximately €100 million.
    5. There were 6.7 million cattle in Ireland according to the 2017 December livestock survey, this represents a 1% increase on the 2016 level.
    6. Ireland in 2016 net exports of beef accounted for 85% of production, making Ireland the largest beef net exporter in the EU and fifth largest in the world.

Hard choices indeed. That paddy's day revenue will pay for a few more ventilators....... sure it'll be grand.

    Hopefully. Although, Singapore.

Also, the temps in Qom, Iran right now, are about our summer temps or higher, high teens or low to mid twenties.

Not sure if the numbers across regions like Africa or India are due to lack of testing, higher temperatures or just the time lag.

    Still so much uncertainty.

Tony Holohan (chief medical officer) " we see no implications for the St. Patricks Day parade and as things stand we don't envisage that situation changing".

There you go now. No implications. None.

Well that's a relief then! There was me, listening to Bruce Aylesward the fecking scaremonger. Sure, what would HE know? :-) twill be grand!!

Anyone keeping an eye on the trajectory in different countries? I.e. how much are the likes of France and Germany increasing daily compared to how Italy has been? Is Italy a special case or it's simply going to get us all to the same extent?

They made an announcement already which was broadcast on the 5:30 News on Virgin Media, I don't know if that's all we'll hear from the day.
There were no new cases in Ireland and they spoke about the two in the North.

From RTE Feed @18.48 today. Apparently she was was on 6.1 talking about it.
Dr Nuala O'Connor, the Irish College of General Practitioners Lead Advisor on Covid-19, has said the risk of contracting coronavirus in Ireland remains "very low."

I think history will show that China were very professional in containing this novel corona virus.
There is a lot of anti-China rhetoric about but it is an amazing country run by some very smart people.

I am sick and tired of being told consistently that there is nothing that we can do about Corona virus.

    There must be something.

Cancel those flights from Northern italy to start with

Sure why would you need a face mask? Load of bollox those things. Only a muppet would wear one of those.

Sure HSE says they don't work.

Close the border completely. Cancel all public events. Close schools and work.

Ruin the economy and send us back to the 70's resulting in more misery than the corona virus could possibly inflict.

St Patrick's Day going ahead would be insane.

    Everyone drunk touching each other.
We could beat China's record of 14,000 infected in a day if it goes ahead,

He does not claim to have the virus.

He was told it could be a number of things based on where he travelled.

People pick up bugs all the time on holiday it looks like the HSE are just being carful testing people who are ill after holidays.

Can not blame the HSE for keeping this isolation testing unit hushed up.

On reflection I do believe Runaways and I also believe the HSE we have two confirmed cases.

We all went a bit nuts in the thread.

Thank goodness he is getting the help he needed. Was really Ill whatever the cause. Get well soon Runaways

Cancelling flights from Italy or anywhere is a fallacy. If they really want to come, they will come.

People in Northern Italy can easily fly out of Nice, Zurich, Bern, Innsbruck, Munich, Ljubjana, Zagreb
Or they can simply fly via another European city.
