I passed by an ambulance on the way home and noted 2 people sat in the back with a paramedic, both wearing face masks.
Looked like they were heading to St. Vincent's.

Is this the norm to get patients to wear facemasks while being transported?

3 more cases in Iceland, 11 there now. Quite a lot for a tiny country with a population the size of Cork city

Anyone know where Iceland’s first case came from? I heard a BA flight diverting in there with a suspected case, but didn’t hear anything for a couple of days after so assumed it was negative.

It was responsible for 18 deaths by 27th December and possibly more after that date.

It would be some major negligence even by the HSE's standard to not identify what it was. At the time they said it was influenza and I believe them.

All the influenza surveillance data is available on the HSE website if you want to look for it. Tbh, I’d be surprised if there were that many deaths due to a non influenza viral pneumonia and we didn’t hear about it. (Haven’t travelled the HSE numbers though)

Could be that version of the flu that was doing the rounds mutated or cross mutated with one in China and that's what's coming back around

Flu is caused by an influenza family virus. This is caused by a differently family of viruses, so I’d say no.

Yep, saw that was posted after I’d posted.

That Fergal what’s his face has to be the worst presenter ever on tv. Every bulletin he does has him staring down at a sheet of paper. He’s fücking terrible.

Don't worry. The HSE will tell us she was only self identifying as a woman and only self identifying as from the East. But that she still has Corvid 91 and that everything they've press releases is correct at the time of release.

Far better come here. A fine collection of rational and reasoned thought :P
I've been prepared and stocked up for over a month, thanks to boards.

The HSE are saying they don't think it's likely there are any other cases in Ireland. I know whom I'd sooner rely on, once one can filter through all the sh*te on here.

The east is getting a hammering

Where does the East of the country start/stop? Is there a point in the middle of the country where east west north and south meet? We need to know this so as to avoid the place.

The lack of a location is disgraceful from the HSE to be honest. Every other country can do it.

Why do they even bother specifying that it is the east at all? Why not just say Ireland if youre going to be that vague, 2/3 of the population live in 'the east' of the country

Why does the exact location even matter anymore? The HSE is only testing people coming back from Corona hotspots and they believe it's not community transmitted. So taking their testing criteria into account, there's no need to know the location of the person.

If you wanted to pick a week to give up smoking (other than Jan 1 for the day), this might be the one.

Probably a few other bad habits could be modified
e.g. swap the daily double frappuccinos for some poor tasting, but very healthy green tea.

The UK is only giving very general location details too. What difference does it make as to the level of detail anyway?

Sure it'll be on social media shortly and a hundred people telling us where on here just after that

There really is no point anymore in announcing vaguely where new outbreaks are.

Should either give the approximate area or just say Ireland and be done with it.

The speculation may cause undue anxiety to many, even if they wash their red raw paws 100 times a day.

    Say North or South Wicklow,

    N, E, S, W. Dublin

    North or South Kildare,

    North or South Wexford.

Have I forgotten anywhere in the East?

    What a fkn shambles.

Someone should tell them by releasing the gender of the patients they are releasing potentially identifying information!

She may have been one of the people self isolating after returning from North Italy already.

I have been going on long hill walks in the hope of improving my fitness and am taking high dose Vitamin D, in order to hopefully improve my immune system.

People questioning why yer man from RTE is constantly reading from a piece of paper - RTE is (basically) a state broadcaster. It's quite obvious the HSE are directing the broadcast.
