She had travelled from Northern Italy, apparently.

A second case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in Ireland tonight.

The case concerns a female in the east of Ireland who travelled from Northern Italy.

Officials say it is not unexpected and Ireland remains on containment with no community transmission.

Up to yesterday, 397 people have been tested and the results have been negative with the exceptions of the two confirmed cases.

No decision has been made on the St Patrick's Day festival but it is understood senior officials will introduce guildance on mass attendance events in coming days.
Does this mean that it is connected to the first case?

Only another 100 tests completed. Comparatively low.

In China they discovered they could test for the virus by doing chest scans. Coronavirus leaves some sort of honey-comb effect on the tissue of lungs, among other signature traits.

If you still have remnants of a cough, you could in theory get a scan and they might be able to confirm your hunch.

I sincerely doubt Covid-19 was loose around Ireland in December though. The place would be in tatters by now.

No surprise that there is another one. Linked to travel to northern Italy again.

2 cases wont change HSE strategy but it should see flights to Italy halted

The enonomy, business, life has to go on. He is no longer practicing AFAIK so his utterances are all about other things and keeping this country afloat economy wise.

But he is clueless with nice socks just the same, and is only a caretaker. Reckon he and Matt will feck off very soon anyway.

I understand that but he is Taoiseach.

The country is not asking about an update on the Economy. Not that I see anyway.

I think everyone wants to know how the HSE and the Depts of Transport, Tourism and Sport will implement contingency plans to protect the country for the next 8 weeks minimum.

BBC News - Coronavirus: Iran temporarily frees 54,000 prisoners to combat spread
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-51723398

There must have been confirmed cases in the prison system otherwise they would have simply cancelled visits and intakes/releases.

Its crazy to think that releasing 54k prisoners was the lesser of two evils!!!

for what it's worth just had a look at the cso and population demographics for ireland
so it looks like currently 19% of the population are aged 60 and over.
so 19% of the total population are in the higher risk group for this virus.

Said it was ‘not unexpected’, so could well be in the same family as the boy who’s already got it. They’ve been in close contact with each other for probably 2 weeks now since he got it. Wish them well.

WTF more needs to happen for the idiots in Leinster house to stop flights coming into this country from Italy?

3 cases on this island. All three of which originated from someone travelling from Italy.

    The minds boggles.

Leo Varadkar seems more concerned with the Irish Economy then Irish Health based on what I’m reading today on RTE.

He’s really not good at addressing the concerns of the Irish People.

For a doctor I thought he could read the situation better.

Its all risk assessment/appetite really. Shutting us down fully and making ****e of the economy earlier than needed could lead to more signifant problems. If it ends up in like the dark says of 10-12 years ago with huge uneplyment, social problems, mental health issues ect and all the grim knock on effects of all that. Its all a tricky balancing act with battling against a virus that probably will still spread no matter what eventually. Not easy decisions for anyone really.

I doubt it makes much of a difference at this stage. There are far more than two that will emerge over the next 2 weeks. Horse bolted about a week ago.
