China have had the most cases and have the most data of results.

They are brushing the concerns off and just keep referring to China - and that assumes everything out of China was correct. Very disingenuous of the professionals

The Australian attorney general has said they’re going to expand laws to detain people at will to fight the outbreak and the UK government is practically screaming to prepare its citizens for the outbreak to go big there.

Here, we’re still arguing over whether or not it’s serious.

Hearing rumours they are going to cancel all sporting events in Ireland from tomorrow onwards.
Please keep such rumours to yourself - post when you have a verifiable, reliable source

Why aren't the children's parents stopping their kids going on these ski trips?

Mentality of some of them seems to be, if the flights haven't been cancelled, it can't be that dangerous...

I'm no doctor , but I would thought over time people would build an immunity to the virus, thus making re-infection highly unlikely - also hope that as the virus lives , that in about 6 months to a year most people would have built up some immunity to it - I worry about the over sterilisation and constant washing hands , cant be good for us - again I'm no medic

The mutating part in what you quoted is important.

I'm shocked at people still posting towards midnight - remember to get the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep each night, help keep your immune system in fighting shape!!

True, watching Claire Byrne though and that programme is not good for anyone’s immune system tonight. The moon is sounding like a nice place to be right now...

They are completely ignoring concerns about people with a suppressed immune system and keep going back to Chinese numbers - seriously wtf
As someone with non-curable blood cancer and a compromised immune system, this has me worried.

****s getting real in the U.K today. Scotland have even made very pessimistic projections of how far this thng will go. Supermarkets drawing up contingency plans.

MBeats me why flights from northern Italy aren't restricted.

    Here's what Simple Simon Says:

Harris said, “we can’t ban travel”.

“Let’s pretend we decided in Ireland [that] we weren’t going to accept flights from Italy. That wouldn’t work because Italian people could be flying to France and France on to Ireland,” said Harris.

“We live in the European Union. There is free movement.

Some interviewer should quote that back to him if we have a massive epidemic

The British couple from the Diamond Princess who were in the media a lot before becoming ill have been making videos from hospital in Japan.
They have nothing but great things to say about the care there and their choice of food for dinner is making me jealous.

The Economist ranks Japan's healthcare system as No. 1 in terms of outcomes. Ireland ranks 21st. Going via Heathrow is the only bit I would be worried about.

Of course people only see and hear what they wish to.

Is this your default response to anyone who questions you, or your default response when you fail to put your thoughts into words?

The messaging today shows clearly the government moving to prepare the population mentally for the outbreak to go big.

Alls well here though. No reason whatsoever it’ll have a major impact in Ireland. >Whistles

    It's true.

But also bare this in mind. Countries can have long memories and so if you ban from Italy or other EU countries and the situation suddenly dramatically improves there and deteriorates here what goes around might come around.

We wouldn't like to be shut off either, would we?

Milan, Italy has recorded a 50% rise in Coronavirus. The US has restricted travel from the region into the USA and here's a flight inbound from Milan into Dublin airport right now

I'm not overly concerned myself, I'm in good health (thankfully) as has most of my family but my parents are getting on in years and aren't in great health, that's a concern for me. Beats me why flights from northern Italy aren't restricted.

Because it's pointless. If you banned Italy people who really wanted to get here from Italy would be on flights from Paris, Barcelona, Zurich, Vienna. It's as much use as blocking one hole in a sieve and then expecting it to hold water.

Thebaz, that isn’t how viruses work unfortunately. There’s no building up of immunity because they mutate so easily.

save the trouble and jazz it up

Not really that big a deal for them to shut bar the fact that it will effect several hundred thousand households who work amongst other things whilst their kids are in school.

Probably sounded better as the hamster suggested it when the wheel slowed down .

the only other issue I see is, Kids taking Highschool/College entrance exams might be messed up from the early closing. Also Graduation ceremonies in Highschools too.
