There have been some harvard epidemiologists who have predicted that 40-70% of the worlds population will contract the virus.

Comparing 1920's horse and cart ireland to today in terms of spread is too silly an argument to get into.

And antibiotics have no effect on viruses.

Antibiotics DO have an effect on superimposed bacterial infections which is what kills a lot of people with viral respiratory infections and killed the majority of those who died in the Spanish Flu pandemic, which was my point.

As to comparing the 1920s Ireland viral pandemic to the 2020 viral pandemic seems quite reasonable to me, given the caveats of treatment, nutrition etc i listed.

Of course people only see and hear what they wish to.

A friend of mine works in a school and some of the kids are back from a midterm ski trip in northern Italy. A couple of the teachers on the trip rang the HSE saying they were not feeling well. HSE told them their symptoms did not sound like the virus. Why aren't schools who have had school trips to Italy being tested?

More to the point, why are those trips still going on? Anyone who went from Ireland to north Italy in the last ten days shouldn't be let back in to the country...

i thought a runny nose was NOT a symptom?
It can be but only in a small percentage of cases.
Because the common cold is also a coronavirus people may assume it has similar symptoms.

Major lack of test kits and facilities like many other countries?

If laxness causes a faster spread of the virus they will have less resources to go around in a shorter time span.

is the re-infections not possibly due to the fact the Covid-19 test itself is not very accurate , and people have to get tested a few times to be sure??

Yes but as an RNA based virus it will mutate a lot so reinfection makes sense scientifically. The tests seem to have many issues with false negatives but even accounting for that reinfection seems almost certain theoretically.

There are still hundreds of people going to Italy from Ireland every day and vice versa.
The only reason Ryanair are cutting down flights is due to drop in demand lol

It is true, though - it is only trying to make a living. We should show more empathy.

China have had the most cases and have the most data of results.

Well, if it causes a cytokine storm it’ll relatively spare the immunocompromised bizarrely enough since they won’t mount a cytokine storm as strongly. Viruses are weird like that. There’s too little data in the West to rule in or out whether cytokine storms are a major component of mortality. The likelihood is that it shouldn’t cause many cytokine storms but we’ll have to see more cases in the West before we can be sure.

But generally the immunocompromised should take extra care as they are likely to be more vulnerable to becoming severely ill.

They are completely ignoring concerns about people with a suppressed immune system and keep going back to Chinese numbers - seriously wtf

Milan, Italy has recorded a 50% rise in Coronavirus. The US has restricted travel from the region into the USA and here's a flight inbound from Milan into Dublin airport right now

I'm not overly concerned myself, I'm in good health (thankfully) as has most of my family but my parents are getting on in years and aren't in great health, that's a concern for me. Beats me why flights from northern Italy aren't restricted.

I'm no doctor , but I would thought over time people would build an immunity to the virus, thus making re-infection highly unlikely - also hope that as the virus lives , that in about 6 months to a year most people would have built up some immunity to it - I worry about the over sterilisation and constant washing hands , cant be good for us - again I'm no medic
