"And everyone lived happily ever after..." None so blind as those who refuse to look. Ignorance is surely bliss.

    Great post, would read again.

I suppose there no chance that you point out which part of the post was blissful ignorance?

Am I wrong that most infected people in any group do not die from it?

Am I wrong in saying that we do not know how bad it will get?

Am I wrong that only a tiny proportion of the population in any country where it has arisen yet have contacted it?

Perhaps you'd prefer if I told the poster worried about his parents with already compromised health taht they should run for the hills an go into full on panic mode?

In case you haven't got the message, your hysteria and misquoting have no place here.

If you've read this thread at all and you've seen the kind of measures some people are calling for and you still feel that this is a better place to go for advice over the DFA, then the answer is you should stay at home, under your bed.

    Should be self isolating then.
That isn't practical for everything people need to go to shops etc

The idea of the school closing is not to present a scenario where it could be spread through a large group. Otherwise instructions for self isolation, if required, apply.

If some parents get infected, and by the time thru realise it, wouldn't they have been in their workplaces unawares for days potentially spreading it there?

In fairness the advice with regards to hand washing and coughing into your sleeve or a tissue was given in the first thread here. That was long before the HSE pulled their finger out.

I was reading and taking advice there from the onset.

The HSE have been supplying that basic hygiene advice for decades.

123 new confirmed cases in South Korea on top of 476 new confirmed cases earlier and 4 new deaths.

599 new cases for the day

They had some cult members getting infected and spreading it all over the country purposefully.

Aren't the masks only good to prevent you from spreading it and not stopping you from catching it. Well not just this, but cold and flu in general. I don't think are wearing full on respiratory masks. Plus if their eyes aren't covered they're still vulnerable.

What's the incubation period of this? It seems that by the time someone knows they have it, they've already spread it around.

I would doubt that only 1 person on that school trip will have caught it. How many people was he in close contact with on the coach, plane etc?

Wearing a mask is a good way of signalling to the world that you are as thick as two short planks, and haven’t even been able to read and digest simple advice about the virus - wearing a face mask won’t protect you from catching it.

Must he a lot of thick health professionals out there so ...

    Already posted this ...

    Coronavirus_transmission_diagram.gif

For those in close contact with others ie 6 feet or less - N95 masks do offer some protection from droplet borne infection ie coughs sneezes and spittle eg when people talk.

On public transport- a N95 mask just may make the difference in getting coughed and sneezed at in close proximity and not directly inhaling same

That said surgical masks are only designed to be worn when protecting others eg doctor => Patient

If you wish to go the whole hog get a respirator

If the numbers are spiking everywhere but Ireland , my concern would be that we simply can’t test enough or keep up with potential cases. Does anybody actually know what the official figure in Ireland of tested people actually is?
The numbers aren't spiking everywhere but Ireland.

As of 9:00AM this morning there are 68 countries affected. Ireland is among a group with 1 reported case:

Afghanistan, Armenia, Belarus, Cambodaia, Dominican Republic, Estonia, Ireland, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Macedonia, Monaco, Nepal, New Zealand, Nigeria & Sri Lanka.

The US made an offer of assistance to Iran this morning.

    Iran rejected it.

Seems like they need all the help they can get.

It might or it might not but mass shutdowns are not the right approach as things stand.

You only wear a mask if you are infected wanting to avoid passing the disease.

    Otherwise it is pointless.

Wearing a mask is a good way of signalling to the world that you are as thick as two short planks, and haven’t even been able to read and digest simple advice about the virus - wearing a face mask won’t protect you from catching it.

So if it is pointless and thick then you should tell all the medical staff worried about not having enough masks.

    Dangerous misinformation here

The HSE guy on Newstalk this morning said that the students from the school in Dublin can mingle with their family. Only segregate them if they start coughing and sneezing. Somewhat too late than for the family.

They may well have but I don’t remember seeing an active campaign at the start f every flu season.

Just because they have a little flyer filed in a filing cabinet doesn’t mean they’ve done their duty.

Most estimates of the incubation period range from 1-14 days, most commonly around five days.

Just to clarify , I said “if” , I wasn’t implying that there is some conspiracy. But you can’t have many more official cases of it disclosed here if testing is slow. Since the HSE has decided (for some reason) to not disclose the amount of people they are testing daily we don’t know how many have been tested.

Nah but if you go into schools, colleges and even work places, bathrooms will often have hand washing and coughing etiquette signs. I've noticed them for years.

The hardshaw "you're being hysterical" brigade are out in force this morning, some going as far to say that it's grand to go around coughing and spluttering on public transport.

Amazing the ability that denial can play in people's reaction to a real threat, not much different to Donald 'no American will die from the Coronavirus' Trump.
