Wonder what this week will bring ?

Husband gone on public transport to work in Dublin. Kids gone on School Buses. All with Hand Gel. Son told me at weekend that his (Secondary) school doesn't have hot water or soap in most bathrooms.

Out with friends at the weekend. Only one friend slightly concerned but she has a son with an underlying condition. No one else we know seem remotely bothered.

In Tesco yesterday. If anything it was less busy for a Sunday. Most anti-bacterial products sold out but other than that no shortages.

Did a stock-take of food, toiletries, meds etc here at home and added a few things. Probably with a bit of rationing of teenage son's eating habits, could last a few weeks.

My Mum (elderly plus underlying condition) did her stint as Minister for Eucharist. Priest announced Communion into hands only. Large bottle of Hand Gel provided for Ministers. She did get one man who opened his mouth but she told him hands only.

We are due to go to UK at Easter and Italy in late June. Husband has work trips to both France and Germany coming up.

Still a bit nervous of this whole thing especially for my Mum and one of my sisters who both have underlying conditions.

Bear in mind that we still have no idea how bad it might get, what impact warmer spring might have &c. And only a tiny proportion of people in the countries where it has hit so far actually contracted it. And even for older people and the higher cfr, most survive. It's not a death sentence for anyone, even the higher risk groups.

"And everyone lived happily ever after..." None so blind as those who refuse to look. Ignorance is surely bliss.

I'm on the bus into work at the moment. Bus is much emptier than usual but the traffic is cat, so clearly a lot of people have opted to avoid public transport.

I was in my local Lidl on Saturday and it was fine. Sister was there yesterday and she said it was like the end of the world. Be interesting to see how the next week or two shakes out.

Unconfirmed WhatsApp that they child trained with na fianna and they have suspended training/matches for that age. Don’t see it on their twitter

That is pretty scary actually. Can you imagine the number of kids the person infected would have interacted with. Now these kids could be going to school as we speak not knowing they have the virus.

On bus to work too, definitely a bit more quiet than a normal Monday. If I had the option I would drive or walk.
No masks or anything like that spotted so far.

School was closed. If they play GAA beside the school chances are they go to the school that's now closed.

On the plus side, China's cases seem to be getting under control.

I have a car but it never even crossed my mind to drive in. I'm not worried enough to pay the guts of 40 quid a day for parking!

You need to treat everyone (including family) as a potential infection vector. There is absolutely no need for people to be interacting with each other in this day and age with Skype WhatsApp etc.

I've locked myself in the spare bedroom. Wife drops 3 meals a day outside the door. We have a group Skype call to chat over dinner. There's no way I'm catching this virus. No precaution is too much.

    Self isolate people!

I wouldnt exactly be taking the numbers in China as totally accurate.
Plus what other country is realistically going to implement the measures they have to control this? (Especially in Europe)

Just got off the bus (9) - it wasn't that much queiter, a little bit. I did see 3 people upstairs wiping the windows with their hands and then straight on to the phone/face etc.
    Sure what could go wrong!

Very little posted here will actually help. Other than wash your hands regularly and if you have any symptoms self identify to the HSE. That's really about all that you can do.

    True.
But still a chance it will be cancelled (betting odds seem to show chance it will be cancelled is increasing)

I wonder when we will hear about our own huge St Paddy's day gatherings.

It's when they start licking the windows that you want to worry.

I get what you mean, but I find discussing the stats etc really interesting (background in data science).

    Ha ha.

I don't think strippers do that on buses.

Or death cults here as far as I know...

    Crufts starts this week.

    160,000 people over a few days .

People flying in from around the world. 350 dogs and more handlers from Italy.

I think it's obvious at this stage that by the time confirmed cases come to light, it's already rampant, or it will be in about 4-6 weeks if the person was out in the community at all.

Yeah facts and stats I have no issue with but there is scaremongering evident here. Up to yesterday evening there was also a individual clearly trolling.

I'd imagine by the end of next week there will be talk about Paddy's Day. Personally like the low key, calm approach being adopted in Ireland. Cheltenham could be done behind closed doors, like the French are doing this week.

    Indeed.

For every one case confirmed. There could be 100's to 1000's to 10s of thousands unconfirmed.

Thats because most sensible people are at home with their families locked in the house, while the man of the house patrols the roof with a shotgun ...
