Because it was the 9 o clock NEWS, not a HSE PR exercise.

The BBC are only reporting cases as being in particular cities, they don't give identifying details either.

You know if Italy had taken more precautions with people flying in from China our school trips wouldn't have been left open to infection.

If the HSE had taken more precautions with school trips flying in from northern Italy, our schools wouldn't have been left open to infection.

If the government currently took more precaution with families of people of those schools, then Dublin would not be left open to infection.

Everybody could see this was going to happen. I said it a week ago. It is not fking rocket science.

    You point that finger!

Far higher protection than the basic face masks people are panic buying, which are largely pointless unless you have the dose and want to limit the spread. Reusable too.

That has replacable filters. Which ones are rated to stop a virus?

Maybe it was an ethical decision by News editors on RTE to protect the confidentiality of the person involved.
No such ethics elsewhere , we all know the name of the school from social media .

I don't particularly have dealings with the mater (apart from occasional e-mails regarding medicines management). I am aware that it is has an infectious disease department but so does St. Vincent's, St. James, Beaumont etc. It's healthy to be sceptical of what I'm saying. You can believe what you want. But if you look back at my post history. It's pretty obvious I'm a hospital pharmacist.

No, the mater doesn’t have a infectious disease department- it is the national centre for infectious diseases. You should know this.

Also most/if not all of hospitals you have mentioned have isolations rooms/wards and have been using them almost exclusively for coronavirus checks for a month or so now.

So I’m surprised that you are questioning my source because if you worked in one of the aforementioned hospitals then you’d know all this

I dont understand why everyone is criticising RTE for not naming the school, obviously they are doing it out of respect for the patient who wants their name to remain confidential.I think that is a good thing not a bad one, that our national media has placed the value of human dignity above getting a good scoop . Nobody is being put at risk by this confidentiality as the HSE has put protocols in place and made all affected parties at the school aware of the danger and what they need to do

Agree with this but their reporting has been terrible. Its been absolutely clear that Italy has a major problem since last Sunday, on Wednesday I heard a piece on radio one advising any Irish person who had booked a trip to Northern Italy to "go and enjoy your holidays"

Because they’re lying. The student was at school last week and in contact with x number of people who went home each day and were in contact with x number of people who work in factories and hospitals and restaurants and bars and hotels and shops and public transport etc etc etc and none of those people will have been notified. This is what causes the panic among people.

It’s the same with the passenger who travelled to Belfast from Dublin earlier in the week. The HSE lied when they said they had contacted everyone who had close contact with that person which is impossible as that person travelled by train to Belfast and they have no way of tracing train passengers as their names are not recorded. The train passes through drogheda and Dundalk which are two large commenter towns. People buy weekly/monthly/return tickets and simply get on the train. There is no way of tracing them. The lies the HSE are spilling is unbelievable. Their bare faced lies are leading people to believe other information is being kept from them.

He's too busy smoking fags in porches even though he.is.in quarantine. So wherever he is also doesn't have fire alarms.

    I'm puzzled Wibbs.

You do or do not want people to buy (effective) face masks? Because on one hand you are worried about face masks running out, but on the other hand you agree that the right type of face masks might be effective.

Surgical and N95 masks are quite effective. Dust masks are absolutely ineffective (apart from discouraging people from touching their own faces).

The sensible thing is for the health authorities to have a stockpile of these (they should have such anyway). Then they don't have to be worried about healthcare workers running out. Given the level of response from the HSE so far I doubt that they would be arsed wearing anything that required more work than smart-casual.

Presumably since the midterm, unless they stayed there into last week. The students at that school are being treated as cases who have had close contact with the pupil. They were going around for the last week and a half, undoubtedly meeting hundreds of people every day, possibly transmitting the virus throughout the community.

Looking like a long shot to go ahead now.

Current betting Odds are 2/1 to be cancelled and 1/2 to go ahead.
Not sure what your understanding of betting but it's far from a long shot in the bookies eyes
