It's quite clear that the Department of Health are directing RTEs reporting. It's a state broadcaster.

That was a comedy sketch standard of "reporting" earlier. the lad reading from a script :pac:

Nothing to see here, now here's Bob with todays sports news.

Why use the " " when calling him a doctor?

Because his reputation as doctor was even worse than his reputation as a politician

A FG voter who wont vote for them again till he is gone. A Taoiseach who wasnt even close to topping his poll

148 in 2019. 5% rise on 2018... I second your call to shut down the roads.

    Edit 5% not 50!

Why not ask the HSE instead of an online forum

Or we are still in the middle of it and have only supposition on the confirmed cases.

Eh... because HIV is also one of the hardest to catch and one of the easiest to protect against. If one were looking for a chalk and cheese example in virology Covid and HIV would be up there.

I am not sure what your overall point is. Are you saying that if you look at one dimension then all these other diseases are worse, therefore the unprecedented impact that this disease has had overall makes it less serious? Or are ye implying it's really a series of governments that are spooked by it?

Can someone explain schools' obsession with skiing trips? It's ridiculous. Bring them to see some historical sights. What's with all the skiing craic?

You have to give them a chance. You can't expect people to die the day they are diagnosed, in the same way you can't expect Covid to spread from individuals that are still in the incubation period. It's simply expecting too much.

Yes we should tell these people to hurry up so we can work out our numbers.:D

Driving has risks and anyone who chooses to drive has decided the benefits of driving outweigh those risks. Also, all that can be feasibly done to limit road deaths has been already implemented
It is what is, and its a different situation to the COVID but no more valid, its a developing situation, just because nobody has died inIreland does not mean its not a valid concern

    - Censorship is now operating in Ireland with a few media outlets. Shocking stuff.

Hope the E.U. steps in and has a word.

What's the licence fee for again?

Honestly I was fuming earlier watching that joke off a HSE Press conference.

Brussels have shown no leadership at all. There own silence is deafening.

They knew rightly that the details would get out very quickly but they are bound to preserve the privacy of patients. So, don't name names and let social media do the leaking.

It’s a political “hands-off” decision to minimise any blame that is caused by economically damaging decisions and inadvertent breaches of GDPR.

Yet again. I don't understand why you are slurring clerical staff. Why don't you know..... slag off my actual profession?

Bizarrely, you seem to be clerical staff. Why are you slagging off your own profession?

I am a clerical worker indeed.

I'll be manning the printer and spreadsheet's tomorrow along with yourself.

Us frontline workers need to stick together, Dazzler.

RTE are not even willing to say the school is in Dublin. This is very serious what's happening with our Media.

Twitter is one of these things that is very harmful to general society and politics IMO.
And I say that as a big supporter of free speach.

I was listening to a doctor from the Royal college of surgeons interviewed, he was making the point that panic response that have severe economic effects will effect health outcomes.
This is a balancing act between a population protecting itself but at the same time society functioning. That is important to health also.

Dr Conkey. He should stick to medicine. He's not an Economist. However I see his latest mumblings have rowed back on his laissez-faire attitude

I broke the speed limit, should I self isolate?

No, but you need to obey the speed limits

I have two friends battling serious illnesses at the moment. They're not elderly but, based on reported effects on immunocpromised patients, this virus will probably kill them if they are infected.

No, that’s not true. Most of the victims are elderly with an existing medical condition. Very few young people with existing conditions have been victims.

Was this a decision by RTE or the HSE?
RTE is a goverment run organisation so will follow advice from other goverment organisations.

No I'd say you should drive with your eyes closed. If only 0.002% of people that were driving yesterday died, it shows that you are practically guaranteed not to die while driving.

One person in my office had to isolate and was since cleared but i and many others were pissed off that she came to the office knowing she was a potential risk.

If the HSE are saying to only isolate students and not their families too then Im pretty concerned tbh

Reminds me of Department Of Finance steering Liveline when people were withdrawing their savings from bankrupt Irish banks during the financial crisis.

I dont understand why everyone is criticising RTE for not naming the school, obviously they are doing it out of respect for the patient who wants their name to remain confidential.I think that is a good thing not a bad one, that our national media has placed the value of human dignity above getting a good scoop . Nobody is being put at risk by this confidentiality as the HSE has put protocols in place and made all affected parties at the school aware of the danger and what they need to do
