My Kindle and beers in the local, simple as :)

Stick in a pair of Ipods and no one goes near the weirdo with the pods & Kindle!.

Each to their own. Just curious why go the pub? Wouldn't it be cheaper to stay home and lose distractions if you want to read?

You can’t beat getting out and about. No draught Guinness at home either.

Prefer to pay a bit more and talk to a few people in a local pub than sit at home drinking cans talking to myself or taking to no one .
Pubs obviously have to charge more paying staff , rates , heating etc . Dublin pubs are very dear to be honest but sub 5 euro points in rural pubs is better than paying 2 euro for a can at home in my eyes .

My sentiments exactly, in terms of the weekly budget I drink somewhat less by supping away in the local. Doing so at home is too easy, and that could develop into a crutch after a while. I much prefer a sociable environment.

Definitely cans, bottles and spirits at home as you will more than like catch the coronavirus if you go to the pub.

The West Indies Guinness porter from the bottle is very nice. You can drink it straight from the bottle. You can get 500ml bottles fit about 2 fifty in the shops.

    Hi,

Wetherspoons seems the obvious compromise here, offering the best of both worlds...

I wish there were more Weatherspoons in Ireland, as they'd help bring an end to the greedy publicans etc.

    Thanks,

    G.

With cans and bottles I think the quality of the drink is better than a pint in a pub. Guinness is the only exception, a pint in a nice pub is yummy.
But from the taps, especially in a late bar you can end up with an awful pint of pi$s after paying near €8 for it.

I’m buying a house and it will have a bar including beer taps.

They're depressing kips though and have a weird canteeny type vibe going on.
Also why are people bad mouthing cans of beamish? They are delish.

I like doing both, yesterday evening I went to my local where the stout is like Mother's Milk I wasn't working today so had I slaughtered a fair few. I might not go again for a few weeks but enjoy a few drops of Jameson washed down with a few chilled Cans/Bottles of stout..

Pints in the pub for sure.
Having a chat and a laugh with friends drinking proper pints.
No atmosphere in a house drinking cans. That’s third world drinking.

    Pints in a pub if...
They sell branded beers that normal people drink
The toilets don't have streams of piss to negotiate when visiting them
There's not someone in the toilet providing technical support on how to dry my hands
    There's no open fire
    The TV's are HD

Back in my twenties could spend 1500 euro a month in the pub and nightclubs every month.

When responsibilities kick in now and been wrecked after a week of work its generally a few bottles at home and might head to the pub once every week and spend 50 euro.

I do prefer the pub but is an expensive habit to literally be pissing away money.

    Mix and match.

Pint in a good pub is a social investment.
You hope it will always be there to drop into so you don't worry about the price.

Drink at home is great too.
Cold beer on summer evening. Nice drop of whiskey followed by IPA beside the fire in winter.

Not those people who like IPA and have 3 arms.

Those who like normal commercially available beer and not some backyard brewed piss that needs to sit in Ned Kelly's boots for a fortnight to give it atmosphere and character. People who avoid complete emperors new clothes beers that need an encyclopedic introduction in to how they were made to think it's something that you need to 'enjoy' or else feel left out.

    Those normal people :D

    Sound dreadful.

One of my locals has no telly, much nicer.

There's a beautiful crackling open fire. Why don't you like fires in pubs?

I was in a pub last night and had two Carlsberg 00 (I was designated driver).

So I'm having an IPA and a sup of Tomintoul tonight, arms or no arms.

    I've paid my dues :).

    Aren’t you the judgemental one
Why not accept that people have different tastes to you and get off that high horse
I’m a big fan of IPAs and pale ales, but I also like the odd Guinness when I feel like it
Some of the pubs I like have 50 beers on tap which I find to be a good conversation starter.
Also a lot of the commercially available beers such as Budweiser is piss IMO
    Normal people indeed

Nah, you prefer that factory brewed piss, the ones where the marketing budget is bigger thant the brewing budget. Nice, low-alchohol, samey, extra-cold (to mask the taste), safe, indentifable, we've been selling this for years in a coutry that never had much choice, ****e.

    Got ya! ;)

If you're going to insist on branded beers, how in the hell is a few streams of piss in the toilets going to annoy you...??

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.
