    Awful yoke

    Better than taking the bus.

Have you seen it in the moose test, bus would be safer.

    Why bother with the negativity?

If you don't like it don't buy it.

It might suit someone looking for a cheap car that's taxed and tested.

Taxed, tested, all leather, low mileage estate with nice alloys for under 500 bucks, get a fella out of a jam, proper bangernomics....

Airbag light on so technically unroadworthy - would fail NCT and insurance company would refuse to insure. If you fail to declare when getting a quote they will potentially refuse any future claims, even if totally unrelated. The car may even be an insurance write-off.

Could also just be a faulty connector.

    I won't....

Was just chatting, wasn't aware that wasn't allowed.

If I had something positive to say about I would but obviously price wise it could of course get someone around cheaply if works out.

07 golf tsi with 170bhp, looks a decent example. Good blend of performance and running costs

Definitely the worst version of that engine, money pit written all over it.

AHH will ya stop.. I'm driving cars in my own name for the last 30 years and was never asked was the airbag light lit.

Ya for me I've a faulty sensor under the seat. I just get my mechanic to reset the fault before NCT.
It then stays off for 2/3 weeks until I adjust the seat for whatever reason.
Passed the NCT the last few years doing this.

    Yeah. Right.

Given the current situation with cars not tested as they should be your post is just comedy.

Would be easier to just change the connector tbh.

Unless your mechanic is not capable of it and is just error read/delete type.

This way is cheaper and just do it once a year. Takes 2min. Call into him on the way to test.
If it was a newer car I would but getting rid of it this year. Nearly 20 years old.

Ah the famous elk test. Over 20 years ago and still seared into the memory.

I'm on the look out for an estate to pull a small trailer now and again. The daily commute is under 30 miles round trip but don't want to be paying crazy tax, as in over 700. Any suggestions much appreciated

These are very good at towing.
I've brought 800kg of lambs in a 12x6 cattle box behind mine, and it hardly knew it was there. 1st gear a bit high if such loads were to be a regular feature, however.
No tow bar fitted, so you'd have to find one and get the socket wired up

Won't be the most fuel efficient but simple car with loads of space. Short NCT counts against it but you could get a further discount if you pushed for it.

Not specifically for jfh just came across and thought was bargain but it might fit the bill.

Auto 2002 passat estate with nice spec and only 144k miles (low for age) for 650, nearly tempted myself.

The Skoda seems ok, but on the Audi, For what it is, mileage, year, price etc, why take a picture with a tree in the way? makes it look like they are hiding something, the rear bumper doesnt seem perfectly matched, but its a 2005!

I like the look of the volvo, 1 owner & long nct. Don't know much about them, had a octavia & it was bullet proof until the turbo finally gave up.
I'm going to check out the volvo

That's the kind of thing I'd be doing except probably not as much weight, but rarely. Those cars are popular alright, just not keen on them myself, for no good reason!
    Going to think about it..
    Thanks

How much mileage when it blew?
Would it not be worth getting a reconditioned one?
At least you know the car and as you said reliable

the turbo was going for about 2 years but actually didn't fail, in the end, i traded it in for my wife's car & took her old car, a ford focus, which was economically the right thing to do but cant wait to get it rid of it, need something with a towbar which is my excuse to get rid.

Good info here on the 1.8 engine. Seems like a decent lump. Fuel efficiency won't be great but that shouldn't trouble you with your mileage. Seems as if it's a Mazda derived petrol engine so should be very reliable.
