Seán Canney votes for Varadkar, who loses 107-36.

41-95 in the vote on Martin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,806 ✭✭✭An Ciarraioch

Amazingly, Canney voted for both Varadkar AND Martin, whose extra votes came from Grealish, Berry and McNamara.

It’s starting to feel like the meaningful Brexit votes. We want change but we don’t know what we want

Theoretically, she has a potential 74 future votes, given the 29 abstentions in her case.

It's weird alright but given they are separate votes he's able to vote for both.

Bar the Soc Dems who said they wouldn't be voting for any of the four nominated what other 23 TD's abstained ? Greens maybe with 12 but even still that's 11 others.

So this vote means nothing then?

Well given how the numbers were shaping up early on these votes bar the Ceann Comhairle were never going to elect a Taoiseach today. They don't mean nothing though.

No, which is why SD abstained until the talks make any progress.

How many people abstained in the other votes ?

    Also 74 still isn't enough.

It means they can now take two weeks paid holidays.

I note that the new FF TD Norma Foley quoted a Shakespeare poem in her speech recommending Martin as Taoiseach.

Given that we're a nation of famous poets, could she not do some more research and quote an Irish poet, not England's most famous writer.

    Greens reportedly voted against McDonald.

    Greens reportedly voted against McDonald.

I'm not surprised. I don't believe they'll enter government with SF. Their vote base is middle class. It's just a non runner.

SF want to work with all parties on climate. I think they’ll be able to wrangle a deal from the Greens.

Climate isn't the problem. They are just too different culturally, shall we say.

Eamon is away with the fairies.

That's the trouble with the Greens, single issue party and cant see the big picture, back to same nonsense as before, nominated Eamon, ffs.

Leo gave a very dignified speech.
Micheál gave the speech of his life.
Mary Lou had no answer - she was stunned and could only rant - not going to be Taoiseach.

If that was the speech of his life, he must not have made many. I've heard better speeches "rant" down the local. Gone for his tea, sleazeball of an individual.

I would have thought they would have picked up quite a few transfers from the SF vote.

Be quite interesting to see the stats on that actually.

A politician’s actions are their words.

I think that was FF's attempt to troll SF

Yes, the Greens are stuck on the small issues like the future habitability of the planet, failing to grasp the big picture that potholes need filling.

She stated a firm no to Carbon Tax, they seem to be very opposed on climate change.
