    Trigger was some character

Remember the episode where he came around to get a lift off DelBoy to the pub and he had to walk past the pub to get to the Trotters flat :D

Has Trigger's neverending sweeping brush been mentioned yet?

Just so you know the box set is edited and isn't like the broadcast episodes. Now they aren't edited to death but there are some things edited for obvious reasons. The jolly boys outing I think is edited(music wise) but just so people are aware.

Edited in what way? Just music or cut scenes?

I've noticed scenes are cut and edited on UK GOLD

Yes they were removed because they(the BBC) had only a license to show them when they aired. I think the second season is the only one where there are no edits on the DVD. The specials are good.

It's easy to see if you watch the episodes on uk gold and then the DVD version you noticed the music changed to stock music but the scene still the same lines are said. Some like the jolly boys outing has a scene in the nightclub where the singer is onstage isn't in the episode.

Were episodes you watched shown before the watershed ? I've seen episodes during the day on uk gold where if there is a word that isn't allowed they would edit it but that's to be expected.

Theres an Only Fools channel on Mobdro for anyone who uses that. 24/7 Horses.

Always loved the more serious bits in the show aswell. Really developed the characters and made it more than just a sitcom.

Although this is absolute genius. Even David Jason can barely keep himself from laughing.

Oh yeah the serious scenes were great. One towards the end where Cassie has the miscarriage. And at the door before they go in, del gives Rodney a pep talk about staying strong for Cassie and how he can cry later in the car on the way home but now he has to stay strong.... then they go in and del looks at Cassie abs bawls his eyes out.

It’s hilarious and it’s a fcuking miscarriage scene! That’s genius.

Sorry if this one has been posted but just watching this one.

Doctor in reference to grandad, “Make sure he gets plenty of sleep and fresh air”
Rodney, “Ya course, we can put his bed on the balcony”

So silly and simple but hilarious. 😂

Not allowed say “bound to be some little %$; shop open somewhere” The Russians Are Coming...Bonnet De Douche

I always remember the phrase where Del is talking about students wearing “Steve Bilko” t-shirts

And when he is trying to impress Raquel and says “Brief Encounter” is his favorite film
“Yes. I loved the bit at the end when the big Space ship comes down and the Little Martians come out.”

A while back when UKTV Gold were doing their usual marathon showings, they had a bit with John Sullivan explaining some of the episodes. He said the chandelier episode was based on a story his father told him, his father never saw the funny side as he was a socialist and the fellas got fired and he saw it as a class issue.
Also he said that after each episode aired his father would call him up and talk about it. When the chandelier episode was aired, he got the usual phone call and his father said "you're right, it was funny"

The jolly boys outing episode just finished on GOLD. Caught a good chunk of it. Accordingly the most voted best only fools episode. Must have seen it dozens of times over the years.

Yeah. It's the best episode and I think I can put my finger on why... because it features the entire collection of only fools cast. They all have their moments.

It's 31 years old at this point ..... Feeeeeck.

The early series with Leonard Pearce as Grandad were the best.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,258 ✭✭✭Hangdogroad

I only discovered The Professionals very recently on itv and I'm addicted. It would never be made today and some episodes have scenes censored. Though not a comedy like fools and horses the banter between the 3 leads is very funny and the show has a certain charm. Have started watching minder too for the first time and loved fools and horses when I watched it first time around. Must watch it again on netflix.

Funnily enough Roger Loyd Pack (Trigger) was in an episode of the Professionals playing a Carlos The Jackal type assasin.

Yeah I'd agree with that. I preferred buster murrayfielde as uncle Albert for the comedy. But the episodes with grandad were better. They had a great raw quality about them.

I've always found it overrated and usually a bit obvious. Some bits of genius, granted, but I'd never watch it personally.

I enjoy that episode as well, especially the part when the driver gets drunk :D

    And of course Trigger

Trigger What d'you think's wrong with him?
Mike What do I think? Well, snow-blindness would be my bet, Trig.
Trigger Yeah? I thought he was pissed.

Always preferred Grandad over Uncle Albert. What a fantastic show, my favorite ever comedy which never gets old. My own Grandad used to be in stitches watching it.

More classic lines from Grandad talking about the gun running in the Benidorm episode. He was such a great character:

"Grandad: Oh we didn't do it purely for financial gain! Oh no, we both felt a deep commitment to a political cause!

Del: Which side were you selling to?

Grandad: Well whichever side had the most money really."

    :D

    Great episode:

Rodney: You were gun running in a civil war?

Grandad: Well that's the best time to do it Rodney, supply & demand.

As mentioned earlier, grandad was such a great character and Lennard Pearce had such a way for delivering lines.

The Peckham Pouncer is one of my favourite episodes, grandad telling how del once rang him to tell him he'd won the pools, and there he was buying champagne for everybody in the nags head when he suddenly realises he hadnt even done the bloody pools!

The driver doesn’t get drunk. The fumes from the dodgy radio that Del sold them knock him out. Same radio causes the bus to explode.

Some of the really early episodes weren't great, purely because there was only a couple of characters.

You get that with pretty much every great comedy. OFAH, The Simpsons, Peep Show, on first viewing the first series might seem great, but when you have seen them all and go watch the first again some of the humour seems a bit off or surreal, the writing and character development is only finding its feet etc. OFAH, for example, in season 1 Del uses the correct French, it's only after Sullivan re watched it he must have realised that it would work better if he was blatantly clueless about the language.

Likewise, all three of the aforementioned end up going a season too far (or in the case of Simpsons about 18 too far). OFAH was pressured into a sub par final three episodes in the early 2000's, Peep Show had a chronic final series, didn't even bother finishing it.

Some funny parts. The pervert cinema manager was very funny, but the guy who plays young Grandad in it, from quadrophenia isn't fit to tie the original Grandad's shoelaces.

Absolutely classic tv show, so many great moments and episodes, they really don't make them like that any more, probably wouldn't catch on with all the modern day snowflakes anyway!

Yeah the bit where Uncle Albert looks at the black lads standing by the juke box and says "I can't hear myself think with all this monkey music". Is that what you were talking about?

Snowflakes might indeed object to that.

This and the green whatever spinoff with Boycie, while kinda watchable are easily the 2 worst things about Only Fools.

Sometimes things are best left alone

Having said that, anytime Delboy and Rodders want to grace our screens again, I wouldn’t mind that as a Christmas special.

I agree it’s a great show but it didn’t go on a season too long, went on about 3 too long and the specials are fairly poor . Some of the later episodes are awful, mostly as Cassandra & Raquel were terrible characters / actresses and were more involved in the storylines

Rodney : Well it had crossed my mind

Jumbo: Well I’m not Rodney ok

Uncle Albert: well that’s a hell of a parting..

It appeared he was drunk at first but there is a scene where he says he had one lemonade and it was like he was overcome with fumes or something.

The radio in the coach was the same as the Albanian ones del was selling in the market at the start of the episode.

The radio went on fire and caused the explosion on the coach.

No as previously said Harry was overcome by fumes by the Mustafa 50 radio he only had one glass of lemonade at the half way house. He says it to Del in Margate.
