Jameela Jamil comes out as queer after voguing show backlash

    https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2020/feb/06/jameela-jamil-comes-out-as-queer-following-voguing-show-backlash?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard

Apparently queer means you are not conventionally gay or bi but have sexual preferences that still fit under the LGBTQ umbrella. Seems a bit vague. Not sure whether it means kinky stuff or just being attracted to unusual traits or something.

Dunno about this whole coming out thing. Why not just treat people's sexual stuff as an unknown until otherwise stated. Enough with the announcements; so what like. Unless you want to sleep with them or they have some deviancy that makes them a potential public menace, why would you even want to know.

The big public announcement to say something vague and a bit cryptic is a bit annoying.

What is it: It means not cisgender heterosexual and it's a handy umbrella term for the 10% of people who are in that diverse category.

Who cares: you, clearly. Although I'm pretty happy to hear it.

    Nothing wrong with it.

There's need to worry if you are gay/bi/pan/trans whatever. The umbrella term queer is handy6for people who are still figuring it out, or feel more than one label applies to them.

I'm gay, which is rather vanilla nowadays. I think a general term is no harm at all.

And she only came out at all because people said it was disingenuous of her to judge on an LGBT themed show.

I thought calling someone queer was an insult or derogatory

She’s an insipid individual, it’s laughable that the very people she panders to turned on her, and she uses this magic card to deflect that criticism. Her (and them) can **** right off.

Why do people need to shove their sexual preferences into people's faces. Yes whatever you're gay, straight, fancy unicorns, I don't give a duck.

That goes for guys too telling a weekend sex story, I don't care.

Seems like a desperate cry for attention. I would have thought 'coming out' was no longer headline news in the west anymore

She's the epitome of the cringetastic, woke, donkeybrained thick 'celeb' on twitter.
She admonishes everyone who doesn't comply with the new language ordained by nutty professors in college campuses across the US and embraced by mainly gamers into anime.
There is no doubt Ms Jamil is nothing but a mouth almighty embracing nothing more than an opportunity to make money (if she was the male equivalent she'd have a beard and call herself a feminist) who is using the *umbrella of the word 'queer' now used to hide every discombobulated woke prick who hasn't a personality to call their own but must self label themselves to save themselves the cost of a tshirt with 'look at meeeeeeee' printed on it.

Its hilarious she has invoked the 'but I'm not straight' tag to defend herself against criticism from the very people she patronises.

She also ruined The Good Place.

*Much more nefarious sh1t hiding under that umbrella term as well but I'm having my tea now.

Who cares (about whoever this attention seeker is),
other than some parents named their offspring 'Jam-Jam' (when abbreviated).

Does it mean that you're not actually gay but you really want to be in their gang?

Queer is a handy catch all for anyone outside the hetero or gay world which is handy if you're looking for a potential partner.

There's actually a really resource for questions like this, when you want to know the answer and aren't hugely invested in the question beyond that. It's called Google. One of the top results is usually this thing called wikipedia, it's fairly extensive too.

There's also a good resource for when you've been trawling the guardian or Steven molyneux's Twitter or whatever for something to annoy you, and need to make sure people know how woke you are to all this nonsense, just seriously, so edgy. But you obviously know about that one coz here we are :)

Yeah, I'm not googling queer thanks. What is queer? It is someone who seems themself to be so. It can have multiple meanings which in turn means that it means nothing.

This particular individual is an odious creature who uses her ethnicity (and now her sexuality) to further her career.

The fact this is on the front page of the BBC is sad and damning of the state of journalism.

    She is an absolute ****.

I did Google and I read articles on wikipedia and cosmopolitan as well as other places and still find it vague and cryptic.

Doesn't seem to mean anything really. But I think it means twat.

Not because of anything to do with someone's sexuality, just to be clear. Just their use of of vague cryptic language to describe themselves.

She’s très annoying but I’m beginning to feel sorry for her because she has kind of backed herself into a corner a bit. She’s tying herself in knots.

Ah Google images would throw up some stuff I don't want to see.

Don't worry though, I'm aware of what it is

    First sentence on wikipedia
Queer is an umbrella term for sexual and gender minorities who are not heterosexual or are not cisgender.

If you find that vague and cryptic then I don't know how to simplify and specify it more for you, I'm sorry.

I don't understand half the words people use today. I feel like Grandpa Simpson though I'm only 42. Queer, cisgendered, pansexual, woke. What do these things mean? Google confuses me with these definitions.

Right so what is an example of a Q that is not LGB or T?
Because if you actually read the article there doesn't seem to be much consensus on what it should and should not include.

But don't try to actually communicate or think. Just keep projecting - whatever it is you're imagining that I am - and continue attacking me.

    OK back on topic everyone.

In this instance, as already defined in the thread, Queer is a term covering anybody not identifying as heterosexual or cisgender

Cisgender is a term describing a person who's gender identity matches their birth gender

Pansexual or asexual or intersex! You can see how that acronym would get unwieldy.

There's plenty of consensus, there's also plenty dissent. Many people who might be described as queer don't like the term at all.

If you are in the minority of not both straight (heterosexual) and cisgender (not transgender) then you are what is often described as queer.
But don't try to actually communicate or think. Just keep projecting - whatever it is you're imagining that I am - and continue attacking me.

I'm sorry you feel attacked, I'm sure that's not a nice feeling.

I apologise for not realising the guy who started a thread about a celebrity being queer and what's that and who cares was looking to expand his mind and communicate.

You don't seem as chill as your name suggests.
