I can solve the nurse/dr/teacher problem.

Make them work here for 2 years before they get their practising certs to move on. That way we always have new drs/nurses/teachers coming into the system - their 3rd level education is subsidised here so let them work in the system that supported them.

Yeah not a bad idea. How about the welfare wasters do the same ?

Nailed that one to be fair. It needs a studio audience, to amplify any heavy blow landed.

Ciara Kelly on newstalk went on a rant about it one day last week and she made so much sense.

When a GP visit costs 35 quid, when junior has the sniffles he is given a shot of Calpol and sent to bed. When GP visits are free, he's brought to the doctor. And when a working person has an appointment for 11am, he/she has to wait til 1pm to be seen because the waiting room is full of sniffling kids.
I don't disagree with paying to see a gp, northern Ireland is a joke doctors surgery awash with people (speaking from experience), don't pay for doctors visit and don't pay for a prescription.

Crazy giving additional money to our already generous pension and not supporting childcare and housing to raise the new breed of taxpayer to support it.

    Mary Lou praising the Brits!

Another thing they tend to do is actually resign as an MP if caught with their hand in the cookie jar.

Wouldn't hurt if we adopted that policy too

How long is left in this debate ? None of the leaders have helped themselves with this debate and by being on TV may hurt themselves.

Very poor performance by Mary Lou,

You hardly expected her to suddenly become capable did you. Her true level is somewhere between county councillor and TD.

The regional hospitals don't have the kit, staff and expertise to save you if you rock up there out of hours (or in hours, in some cases).

Properly fund and staff the air ambulance services instead.

Who would you have running Air Ambulances?

Another 500million contract to CHC? Or perhaps a 3.5million euro part time contract for a fixed wing aircraft that won't do any domestic work?

It is for the value for money it gives - sucking money away from Limerick where it would give better efficiency.

Incorrect. Scaled down services provided in Nenagh being used to relieve pressure on Limerick with patients frequently transferred to Nenagh from Limerick to free up beds in Limerick. Minor injuries unit also used in Nenagh in an attempt to prevent people needing to use A&E in Limerick, therefore also helping to reduce pressure on the hospital. The catchment area and population increase in recent years means it is simply impossible for the hospital to deal with the number of pepple who need it

Nice to see Leo is awake during this debate. Maybe it was strategy to be quieter during the last one.

Leo is much more comfortable at this, Mary Lou struggling, hasn't come across with a good point so far which really is disappointing, a 3rd strong party is definitely needed what ever side of the fence you are on

And paying for water supply and waste removal based on usage.

    Irish non-solutions to Irish problems.

You really think so? Jaysus, I think she's really underperforming here. Plenty of soundbites and prepared one-liners but she's so evasive and sketchy when anything is put to her.

I think the bigger format debates suited her much better.

Poor quality from all. I don't think this will do anything to change minds, not will it be seen as a turning point.

57% income tax on earners over 100k will drive further immigration.

SF are absolutely clueless and the demographic they are targeting is so evident. Uneducated, low earners who know no different.

    It’s like Brexit.

Why would people come here to pay more taxes????

Unless of course you meant emigration.

Air ambulances fly at night? News to me.....

In countries where the system actually works, yes. It doesn't here.

But it'll cost a hell of a lot less with vastly better outcomes to fix that - either by making the Air Corps attractive enough for pilots not to leave or getting someone like CHC to do it - than to try make the regional/rural A&Es function to an acceptable level.
